Senior Big Data Engineer

Our client is dedicated to putting video everywhere. From iPads to desktop browsers, their technology is optimized to deliver the right content to the right device at the right time.

Their success is driven by two simple key performance indicators: engagement and monetization. They are looking for an individual who can help build out our growing data, analytics and business intelligence group in order to increase those KPIs.

They are seeking someone who loves data, and who brings expertise in navigating it with ease. Someone practical, experimental and iteration driven, a professional who understands that small and simple things - taken to giant and complex scale - can make enormous impact.

Prototyping, designing and implementing complex, cutting-edge big data systems
Working with internal and external business groups to identify, collect and manage genuinely massive data sets
Partnering with engineering in analysis and visualization of data, helping them turn information into insights
Participating as subject matter expert when needed during design reviews of various distributed data stores
Creating standards for building, monitoring, managing and benchmarking big data systems
Working with and integrating third party data sets

Skill with Hadoop design & operations required, experience with Redis and MongoDB desired.
Programming experience with Ruby strongly preferred, with a preference for test-first development (TDD/BDD) in RSpec. Python experience a plus.
Experience with or willingness to learn Clojure. Some exposure to another functional JVM language such as Scala would be appreciated as well.
Strong skill in R is a must.
Experience in Matlab desired, a preference for Octave appreciated.
Familiarity with browser-based data visualization kits such as D3 a strong plus.
At least one degree in statistics/applied mathematics, though at least one degree with a strong mathematical grounding would be considered.
