This position is located in Serra Mesa.
8-hour shift; 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, weekends as needed
- Bachelor's degree in an applicable field, such as Nursing, or Health Care Administration required
- Master's degree preferred
- American Society of Healthcare Risk Managers certification preferred
- Current unencumbered California Registered Nurse licensure required
- Trained in Lean Six Sigma
- Minimum of three years’ experience in process improvement and change management experience required
- Experience in leadership that promotes collaborative teamwork required
- Ability to effectively work with Sharp management, staff and physicians
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and accurately with people verbally and in writing
- Ability to achieve results for the organization and the project with and through people
- Ability to practice good time management
- Ability to demonstrate good leadership and project management skills
- Ability to successfully manage multiple project work teams using applied principles of project and team management
- Knowledge and experience in utilization of change management theory and practice
- Strong quantitative, analytical and process redesign skills, along with project management skills will be essential components of this role
- Ability to instruct and train others in Lean Six Sigma principles used for developing and carrying out plans for better utilization of health care resources
- Knowledge and understanding of principles of healthcare risk management required
- Knowledge of Joint Commission, DHS, CMS Regulations and laws and requirements imposed on healthcare organizations required
- Knowledge of general principles of quality improvement, infection control, safety, corporate compliance and HIPAA
- Operational knowledge a variety of computer software applications, including relational database, MS Office, Cerner
- Ability to perform statistical analysis on a variety of data types from a variety of data sources
- Ability to effectively interact, in oral and written forms, with medical and hospital staff, as well as patients, families, visitors, attorneys and the community at large as required

This Sr. Specialist - Performance Improvement position is with the Quality Assurance department. The Sr. Specialist plans, directs, and manages the Healthcare Risk Reduction Program for the organization, which includes, but is not limited to Manages performance improvement projects using the Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control (DMAIC) phases. Translates customer feedback into strategic project focus areas using Six Sigma tools, and establishes key project metrics that relate to the voice of the customer and yield process insights. Applies basic and advanced ‘lean’ principles to project management (e.g. ‘5S’, value stream mapping, theory of constraints, kaizen) Develops and uses appropriate statistical process control tools to monitor long-term effect of project improvements. Ensures rigor in project execution, phase requirements and timing. Selects the appropriate metrics for projects and applies measurement systems analysis to determine and ensure accurate measurement of causes and effects. Coaches others on effective use of change management tools to ensure success in Lean Six Sigma projects. Understands and applies techniques/tools for managing organizational change using change acceleration process including identifying appropriate leaders, understanding existing systems and structures, creating a shared need, shaping a vision, mobilizing commitment, making change last and monitoring progress. Identifies and effectively manages human resistance to change. Uses effective and appropriate communication techniques for different situations to overcome organizational barriers to success. Defines, selects, and applies techniques that support and sustain team member participation and commitment (nominal group, brainstorming, etc.) Applies coaching, mentoring, and facilitation techniques to guide a team and overcome problems. Work with the Director of Quality Improvement & Physician Services and other organizational leaders to create and facilitate an education/communication action plan related to pro-active risk reduction.
The Quality Department is instrumental in driving Quality and Patient Safety. The department is made up of nine staff members consisting of: one Decision Support Analysts, seven Sr. Specialists, one Admin/Data Analyst, with various skill sets from data mining, to conducting root cause analysis and being involved in process improvement. The clients served encompass all of Sharp Metropolitan Medical Campus which includes: Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women & Newborns, Sharp Memorial Hospital, Sharp Memorial Outpatient Pavilion, Sharp Mesa Vista, Sharp McDonald Center.

Ability to walk across campus often to work with patient care units and medical staff on performance improvement. Stand for extended periods of time while facilitating Work Outs/PI teams.
