JOB PURPOSE:

Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant-Financial Reporting will be responsible for managing, motivating, and supervising the Accountant-Financial Reporting and the Collections and Commercial card functions and related personnel. This function will own the month end close process and work closely with the Controller and other Company-wide managers regarding financial results, special requests and the like. Specific responsibilities include, preparing; calculating; directing; partnering and/or administering financial objectives and policies; month end reconciliations; compliance reports; assist with company audits as needed; and assist in reporting income, expenses and earnings for the organization. Additional responsibilities include, mentoring, training and supervision of less experienced team members and overseeing project development, execution and follow up.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Reporting and Accounting
  • Hands-on ownership of the General Ledger and all related reconciliations each month, ensuring they are completed timely and accurately
  • Hands-on day to day accounting experience including preparing and posting journal entries, managing the timeliness associated with month end close
  • Delivers monthly financial reports in accordance with Company standard reporting guidelines and templates
  • Prepares financial performance reports, monthly and quarterly, and monitors analytics to alert the Controller or others to trends or issues that may impact revenue/earnings on a go-forward basis
  • Supplies financial forecasting assistance with medium to advanced Excel skills (i.e. pivot tables; links etc)
  • Follows the approved internal controls processes through policies and procedures and willing to draft updates to policies and procedures and requirements dictate
  • Assists BU personnel with providing or interpreting financial information on an as needed basis
  • Identifies, based on knowledge of financial information and operations, potential cost-reduction opportunities
  • Operates within the company's global financial accounting, monitoring and reporting systems
  • Produces accurate financial reports to specific deadlines
  • Assists the Controller and manages the development and ongoing maintenance of BU’s budgets and forecasts
  • Completes special projects, assignments and other duties as required

Business Unit Partner

  • Supplies feedback on issues related to Financial Reporting (i.e., challenges the outlook, key cost lines and raises the awareness of cost savings
  • Coaches, trains and improves the Accounting understanding for direct reports, and other related departments in need of assistance

Accounting Leadership,

  • Directly supervises a small team (1 to 4 people)
  • Encourages improvements in the processes from team members
  • Collaborates in the development of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for processing transactions
  • Aligns training through on the job, internal or external courses
  • Directs and coordinates the overall activities of team members in accordance with policies established by the Executive Committee including meeting deadlines
  • Communicates effectively with management, team members, clients and customers in the planning, coordination and execution of services and initiatives
  • Collaborates with the Controller and interacts with human resources for proper team management including on boarding, reward systems, including direct and indirect compensation (e.g., salary and benefits) performance management and training Fields questions the group members have and makes decisions accordingly
  • Provides coverage for other team members as required

Internal Controls
  • Assists with field audits with action plans agreed with local operations
  • Assists in writing internal control processes and procedures, on an as needed basis
  • Ensures that communication from Corporate on Internal control procedures is made available to all members of the team
  • Supplies input and collaboration together with key business partners in the improvement/amendments to internal control processes
  • All other duties assigned

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

While performing the duties of this job the employee will spend a majority of the time indoors in environmentally controlled conditions, such as an office or storage facility. The employee may occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; and outside weather conditions.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk; reach with hands and arms, manage and lift up to 100 pounds, and maneuver mechanical equipment in a confined space. The vision requirements include: close vision, far vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS – EDUCATION, SKILLS, ABILITIES, EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 3-4 years’ experience in an Accounting Management or Senior Accounting role
  • 2 years financial reporting experience or applicable experience
  • BS in Accounting
  • Professional designations, such as the CGA, CMA, or CPA helpful but not required
  • Continuing educational development in the Accounting field
  • Proven knowledge in business and financial management
  • Demonstrated leadership and vision in managing teams and major projects or initiatives
  • Established commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace
  • Strong leadership skills that include planning, organization, team building, influencing, problem solving, judgment skills and ability to work in a rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively and with all levels within and outside of the organization
  • Ability to solve special problems or challenges related to field or equivalent area
  • Proven ability to build, lead and motivate teams to achieve organizational goals
  • Ability to delegate, build, manage and lead teams
  • The ability to mentor, coach and counsel staff in their professional development
