COLSA Corporation’s Corporate Office in Huntsville, AL is seeking an experienced Benefits Specialist to join its HR Team. The selected candidate will be responsible for various activities involved in the design and administration of the company’s benefit and retirement programs. Activities include: oversee and participate in daily benefit plan administration including but not limited to enrollments, COBRA, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, disability and accident and death claims, rollovers, QDROs, QMCSOs, distributions, loans, hardships, and compliance testing; interpret plan procedures and policies and recommend and advise on benefit changes; apply continuous improvement philosophy to processes to improve administration, recordkeeping, reduce costs, and increase efficiency; ensure policies and procedures are in compliance with applicable government regulations; analyze data to determine underlying drivers of benefits claims in support of short and long range expense management; oversee benefits communication to workforce; oversee the planning and execution of company wellness plans and activities; plan and assist in the budget projections for all health and welfare and retirement budgets to support corporate objectives; create reports for management based on analysis of benefits-related information; manage vendor relationships and initiate RFPs for brokerage services when needed; investigate new providers and ways to improve existing programs; and annual open enrollment facilitation and processing.
Bachelors degree in related business field such as Human Resources Management.
Minimum of 5 years direct experience managing benefits programs, 8 years preferred. Experience with heavy phone and email volume. Experience working with HRIS systems – knowledge of Deltek Costpoint preferred. Ability to multi-task and adapt quickly to shifting priorities. Ability to work well and partner with others in a team environment. Good depth of knowledge in related regulations and mandates, including ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, and IRS regulations as they relate to 401K administration.
Demonstrated experience developing products using Microsoft applications to include PowerPoint, Word and Excel. Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
PHR or SPHR certified. CBP certification or similar benefits professional certification preferred. Prior experience in a DoD environment highly preferred.
