This position is located at the Altoona, PA facility. Periods of significant travel (up to 25%, both domestic and some international) will be required to be successful in this position.
Purpose of Position
The Electronics Buyer leads the efforts in securing from outside sources various commodities used in the production of electronic goods.
These commodities are obtained through the use of accepted procurement practices with particular attention to timely delivery, quality, and relationship to standard cost.
The execution of these tasks shall be conducted with the highest level of personal, professional, and ethical conduct. These procedures involve direct contact with outside electronics suppliers, both distributors and manufacturers, and may involve interface with Veeder-Root design engineering, project management, boardroom and assembly manufacturing operations, and with transportation carriers, VR Sales, Customer Service, and Marketing staffs to meet/exceed current and projected customer requirements.
Support and lead material supply management for electronics for boardroom production and ATG, Vapor, and RJ electronics and/ or electrical areas.
Ownership and leadership in the development of both short and long term strategy discussions concerning electrical and electronic commodities.
Make appropriate recommendations based on general market conditions considering VR and DHR procurement objectives and project supply management in these areas.
Utilize and monitor material procurement procedures ensuring consistent quality, delivery, and cost with minimal inventory investment.
Direct contact with outside suppliers, transportation carriers, customer service, and operations staffs to meet/exceed current and projected customer requirements, assuring material availability and optimal inventory levels.
Project management of Veeder-Root and supplier activities to support electronics production supply.
Understand component commodity spend and develop component life-cycle management and identification through supply base support.
Responsible for the continual Monitoring and communication of life-cycle critical issues to Veeder-Root senior leadership to ensure support for Veeder-Root product sales continuity and planning.
Assist with Root Cause/ Corrective Actions to communicate containment and short term actions and permanent solutions to material supply issues.
Work closely with Material Planning and Operations departments and suggest and implement appropriate procurement method (JIT, Reorder Point, Consignment, Reducing Lead-times, or Scheduled Releases) based on part characteristics, supplier, and demand to optimize material velocity and availability.
Contributes, in the capacity of a team member, individually, or as a reference, to resolving materials quality issues and increasing manufacturing productivity.
Frequently participate in, and lead continuous improvement workshops (kaizens) with team members to improve quality, delivery, productivity and cost.
Achieve department performance goals (ie. PPV, LCR sourcing, OTD, and successful new product development launches (cost, timing, inventory, etc)).
Develop and manage new sources for existing materials where doing so will improve overall quality, on time delivery, inventory reduction, and PPV goals.
Utilize available tools (DBS toolbox, reverse auction, LCR sourcing, kaizen, direct negotiation, etc) to achieve best overall supply chain solution for quality, delivery, and cost.
Reports to Purchasing Manager or to Purchasing Team Leader.
Works directly with New Product Introduction group, Design Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, Area Supervisors, Materials Planning Personnel, Supplier Quality Engineers, Cell Operators, and Members of Management.

Background and Skills
A.S. or B.S. in Engineering (electrical, electronic, mechanical), and minimum of 5 years in a direct electronics manufacturing role in procurement.
Ability to work without close supervision.
Proficient at the use of MS office applications including Word, Excel, Project, and Access.
Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and Project Management concepts and methods.
