The Senior Communications Specialist is an integral member of the Institute’s Communication team, supporting the Institute’s branding and communication programs, as well as its fundraising efforts and goals.
Under general direction, the incumbent will oversee and assist with a variety of communication projects including acting as editor of the Institute’s quarterly Portal donor magazine (including planning, writing, organizing and designing the 12 page publication); maintaining campus digital signage resources; contributing to the Institute’s social media efforts including writing for blogs and overseeing the Institute pages on sites such as Facebook, twitter, etc.; performing media analytics and market research as needed; and performing other related duties and tasks as required or assigned.
Will also support the Institute’s fundraising/philanthropy efforts by acting as a writing resource for the Philanthropy team. Will create, develop and review donor communications; create all content for donor and prospect communications and marketing materials; and provide strategic recommendations to fundraisers for appropriate use of communication tools.
Requires a bachelors degree in Communications, Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field, and 2-4 years of professional-level Communications/Marketing experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.
Must have documented writing and presentation skills in a professional environment; strong graphic design skills; previous experience maintaining web content using a content management system (SharePoint experience preferred); demonstrated experience synthesizing content from various formats and preparing electronic communications; and a proven ability to establish and work within strict deadlines.
Requires a professional demeanor and strong analytical and organizational skills along with excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able work independently and multi-task while prioritizing multiple conflicting tasks, and use sound judgment when representing the Institute to both internal and external parties.
Must have professional proficiency in Microsoft Office, HTML, CSS, Adobe Creative Suite, and the ability to learn other department-specific computer systems as needed.
