Develops and/or assists in the development of safety strategy. Leads and directs high-level strategic projects, committees, and/or task forces. Advises on matters that affect FedEx Ground (FXG) internally and externally and which are critical to achieving a “Safety Above All” objective.

Essential Functions:
  • Develops strategy in response to broad-based regulatory initiatives which require the interaction of various Safety department functions.
  • Advises Managing Director and VP of pending regulations and other significant industry matters that may impact FXG.
  • Makes recommendations and assists in the development of overall company safety strategy.
  • Participates in and/or presents at meetings, seminars, and conferences held by law enforcement, government agencies, and trade organizations on matters affecting FedEx Ground safety programs and efforts.
  • Acts as Safety’s primary liaison to other FedEx operating companies on the coordination of collective FedEx comments, efforts and initiatives relating to safety.

Minimum Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree required in Safety, Business Administration, Transportation/Logistics, Communications, Public Administration, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.

Minimum Experience
  • In addition to minimum education, seven (7) years’ experience developing and managing safety programs, including direct interaction with federal agencies, and national transportation associations.
Required Skills, Abilities and/or licensure
  • Professional Designations preferred: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Director of Safety (CDS) and/or Project Management Professional (PMP).
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of general safety practices and how various regulatory agencies may impact operations.
  • Ability to successfully navigate and oversee the implementation of various business initiatives.
  • Ability to conceptually understand and translate new regulations into required operational changes.
  • Software skills, including use of Microsoft Office and web-based applications.
  • Strong project management, time management, and organizational skills necessary to manage multiple projects, appropriately prioritize workload, plan for resources to meet deadlines and goals, and respond to day-to-day functional needs.
  • Ability to mentor, coach and act as a knowledge resource to other safety professionals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to develop and maintain productive relationships.
% of Travel for Position- 50-75%
