The Senior Counselor is responsible for the supervision of counseling staff, while facilitating all program activities. Employee is expected to exercise independent judgment and discretion. This includes serving as primary care giver and role model to the residents of Phoenix House and to the community.
Supervises and participates in primary counselor duties to clients and their families including screening and intake, psychosocial assessments; client and family orientation, development of treatment plans; crisis intervention; group, individual, family and didactic sessions; discharge summary and planning; case management and coordination of treatment services with probation, school and other referral sources. Multi-lingual counselors may be asked to provide services in multiple languages to meet the needs of the clients and families.
Ensures the program participant care approach of Gender Responsive and Trauma informed milieu by monitoring and participating in the following activities (Job functions, Physical Education, Academic enrichment , Case Load Activities, Meal times, Personal Hygiene, Morning Wake up, Bed time and all (un) scheduled activities.
Coaches, documents and monitors employees implementation of contingency management program and assures appropriate levels of consequences are given for program violations.
Responsible for timely and accurate completion of client notes, charts, reports, and other documentation related to the treatment and progress of clients in the program. These reports include but are not limited to individual and weekly progress notes, documentation of attendance and participation in-group, didactics and family sessions.
Record daily in a central repository program participants daily routine within the milieu which includes (inter-intra personal relationship with peers and staff, hygiene / grooming, contributions to the milieu (job Function) and academic responsibilities. Documentation requires the use of an electronic health record system.
Maintain the dignity and personal rights as highlighted in our aforementioned regulatory agencies by deploying clear and skilled crisis communication, evasion techniques when program participants display hostile or volatile behaviors which may cause bodily harm to self.
Develop positive workplace relationships in accordance with Phoenix House Policy and Procedures with staff and peers by offering appropriate support within a nurturing environment while maintaining a high level of professionalism
Applicants must meet at least one of the following qualifications:
BA degree and/or certification as a Counselor as reflected by the State of residence (such as the CADAAC) MSW and/or LCSW may also be required for certain positions
2-3 years progressive experience providing or coordinating social services, preferably within a drug or alcohol treatment setting or transitional housing environment [For adolescent programs must at least 36 months]
