Leads electrical engineering design activities for major scale EPC projects in oil refinery, hydrocarbon, and chemical industrial facilities. Responsible for providing electrical design deliverables for the project in front end, detailed design, and construction phases. Leads a team of electrical engineers in the execution of design and interfaces with a multi-discipline project team consisting of project manager, controls, estimating, and multiple engineering disciplines. Interfaces directly with construction personnel in development of contracts and execution of work. Tracks electrical design efforts against budgets and expected progress. Supports estimating at each project phase through various means including equipment specification and bid processes and material take-off's. Works with the computer based platforms used in developing of detailed design for routing and placing electrical equipment. Works with clients and vendors directly in developing the design, and builds lasting business relationships. Provides leadership and guidance to less experienced staff members. Coordinates workload with electrical department manager for developing project budgets and managing resources.
Electrical design deliverables include developing hazardous area classifications, design 15kV and 5kV distribution systems, design 480V one lines and motor schematics, load flow and short circuit studies, UPS and battery sizing, cable sizing and other electrical calculations. Develop specifications to purchase electrical equipment. Experience in construction and field start up is a plus.
This position will be accountable for schedule and budget and making trips to job sites to survey existing electrical conditions (travel about 15%). Work with affiliated offices in executing work and with our value engineering partners.
Candidate must have experience as lead electrical engineer on detailed design projects. Must have experience in Class 1 Div 2 Group C,D areas. Must have experience with design activities listed above. Must be willing to travel to the job site and meet with clients and construction personnel to scope the project and answer construction problems. Must have basic knowledge of construction methods such as cable tray installation, cable pulling, cable testing, etc.
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from accredited program. Minimum 7 years related experience (completion of master's degree in related field may be substituted for one year of experience). Registered Professional Engineer is desired. Excellent written & verbal communication skills. Strong analytical and problem solving skills. This position requires an individual capable of applying intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to broad areas of assignments. Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered. Previous consulting experience preferred.
