SUMMARY: The responsibility of this position is to design and initiate layouts for projects; develop scope of work and details for Civil, Structural, or Architectural components of complex structures and buildings; directly responsible to the Director of CSA Engineering, Engineering Services, for effective management of assigned projects. Other duties include: function as project manager on assigned projects; maintain a working knowledge of national building codes and material specific codes such as AASHTO, ACI, AISC, AISI, ASCE, ICRI, NCMA, NFPA, OSHA, PCI and UL; maintain knowledge of economical building systems in conjunction with durability requirements for the food processing industry; develop knowledge of economical building (roofing) systems in conjunction with durability requirements for the food processing industry. Help maintain historical performance data for all roof systems based on performance, cost and location; prepare estimates for design and construction, personnel requirements, project budget and time schedule; ensure all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with Tyson's established policies, objectives, and standards; analyze construction and design bids and recommend to the Director of CSA, Engineering Services, the candidates for successful bidder; preview and approve construction shop drawings and product submittals for conformance to construction documents; perform construction site visits and provide written reports of construction progress and deficiencies; support and develop corporate construction standards and details including inter-discipline standards; act as Tyson's representative when design work is being performed by an architectural or engineering consulting firm.
Education: Accredited Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Architecture or equivalent experience.
Experience: 8 + years' applicable architectural experience with a minimum of 3 + years' experience in the food processing industry. Professional registration (by NCEE or AIA approved examination) preferred.
Computer Skills: Basic computer skills; Microsoft Office; proficient AutoCAD knowledge and experience.
Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Travel: 12 + domestic trips per year; extensive travel may be required. Position-Specific Requirements Primary Objective:
Design and initiate layouts for projects. Develops scope of work and details for Civil, Structural, or Architectural components of complex structures and buildings. Develop and prepare construction documents for assigned projects. Evaluate existing buildings for structural and architectural conformance to current building codes and requirements of the food processing industry. Review and approve consulting engineer's and architect's construction documents. Provide continuous effective project design management from inception through construction.
CSA Specific Experience/Requirements:
1. Knowledge and understanding of building codes use and occupancy classifications, ADA requirements, and egress requirements in terms of limiting areas, rated separations, and fire suppression systems.
2. Technical knowledge, experience, and understanding of architectural and engineering components of buildings with multiple building materials such as conventional steel, pre-engineered metal, cast in place concrete, prestressed precast concrete, masonry, wood, and cold formed steel.
3. Knowledge and experience with low temperature, food processing, and industrial building design and detailing, including various experience detailing insulated metal panels.
4. Technical training on roof systems design, specifications, and installation.
5. Proficient AutoCAD knowledge and experience.
