Job Summary

Applies diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in area of assignments. Make decisions on engineering problems and methods and represents the department to resolve important questions. Requires the use of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices of own field and related sciences or disciplines, including practical field experience. Consults supervisor or principal engineer concerning unusual problems and developments. Mentor staff and Associate Engineers.

Key Accountabilities

-Applies company standards and practices to all design work

-Develop system-operating parameters for complex systems to meet company and customer needs

-Establishes and reviews test procedures and assesses new technology, material and equipment

-Frame engineering/operational problems and propose solutions

-Monitor and coordinate engineering related activities as related to field construction projects

-Monitor system performance and prepare long and short-term facility plans including costs

-Must be able to make sound engineering decisions under limited time constraints -Prepare complex written procedures to facilitate construction, maintenance, and operation of the distribution systems

-Provide complex analysis, design, and specification and cost estimates for gas transmission systems

-Provides technical support to field as needed

-Contribute to the development of the budget and containment of project costs

- Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Civil Engineering preferred.

-Minimum of seven years of job-related experience, with increasing level of responsibility

-Experience in compression systems and transmission piping design preferred

-Professional Engineer registration is desired

-Computer Skills: Proficiency in computer applications applicable to specific work field/discipline

-Must have a valid driver’s license, provide a suitable automobile for use on Company business, and meet Company driving standards

-Ability to interpret blueprints/drawings/schematics and other design documents

- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with people at all levels both within and outside the company.

- Effective in self-management of time with a demonstrated personal commitment to work

-Highly developed knowledge of specification, design, installation and commissioning for gas transmission station piping and compression equipment including auxiliary systems

-Knowledge of specification, design, installation and commissioning for the following gas-handling systems: dehydration and dew point control unit, heating and pressure regulation, flow control and measurement, odorization, process instrumentation and control, electric power supply including generator and UPS back-up

-Knowledge of industry codes and standards including Michigan Gas Safety Standards, ASME Piping Codes, National Electric Code and MichCon Distribution & Transmission Systems Standards and Procedures
