We are currently seeking a Senior Epidemiologist/PhD for the Silver Spring, Maryland area.
Responsible for analyzing a variety of medical surveillance data and field / lab epidemiologic data using statistical methods and computer hard hardware / software
Must be able to respond to ad hoc, quick-turnaround request and inquiries from DOD-GEIS program staff using existing and routinely collected data,
Must be able to conduct longitudinal data analyses
Must be able to submit research papers for peer-reviewed journals.
Must assess the feasibility of proposed studies and evaluate data sources for other researchers.
Must be able to plan and design long-term studies to identify risk factors for select outcomes leading to policy changes or behavior modifications, evaluate the success of policies and identify the need for other policies.
Must identify and investigate current and archival epidemiological data in the conducting of field epidemiological surveillance and/or outbreak investigations.
Must be able to provide input to DOD-GEIS publications in the form of surveillance summaries.
Maintain a safe workplace ensuring that he/she is aware of and observes appropriate safety and occupational health rules and regulations. Employee is required to attend safety training relative to his/her position and report any infractions of safety procedures to the facility Safety Officer.
Performs light duties and other related duties as required and assigned.
Must have a Doctoral Degree (MD or PhD / DrPH) with Master’s in epidemiology or public health.
Must have a minimum of 8 years on-the-job experience.
Must have extensive abilities in database management and analysis software such as STATA, SAS, SPSS, and/or Epi Info)
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications such as MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
Must be familiar with current molecular epidemiologic investigation techniques and be versed in data analysis based on these techniques (such as Bionumerics) as evidence by experience and publication in peer-reviewed journals.
Must have a general knowledge of DOD medical research, development, and acquisition processes.
Must have a cursory knowledge of drug, vaccine, and medical device research.
Must have the ability to think independently about epidemiologic problems and have the ability to assess data.
Must be able to mentor junior analytic staff in approach of final product.
Must have a demonstrated ability to successfully direct and lead multiple tasks simultaneously and independently.
Must have a demonstrated ability to lead and work with multidisciplinary project teams.
Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Must be able to work independently following a brief period of specific technical training.
