  • Depending on project complexity provide oversight and supervision necessary to coordinate project testing services consistent with clients needs by either performing or arranging qualified personnel to perform applicable geotechnical and/or materials testing
  • Provide engineering recommendations perform field observations/evaluation prepare reports and manage project testing for assigned jobs
  • Provide guidance/mentoring to less experienced professional and technical staff
  • The job types performed include construction observation/testing services and subsurface exploration programs
Proposal/Contract Preparation
  • Communicate with clients to determine their project needs
  • Develop engineering and testing programs for projects
  • Establish project budgets
  • Prepare and present proposals
Performance of Work/Report Preparation
  • Establish and meet project quality requirements
  • Oversee and maintain client project team and in-house communication during work performance
  • Prepare formal engineering reports
  • Review formal engineering reports
  • Render professional advice to clients
Field Work
  • Perform engineering observations/judgments of construction materials or geo-structural activities including those jobs with a higher degree of difficulty
  • Coordinate technicians to perform field tests
  • Assist in training of less experienced personnel in routine field work/documentation and report preparation
Project Management
  • Maintain project file and job status
  • Prepare invoice
  • Pursue aged accounts
Business Development
  • Establish maintain and build business relationships with clients
  • Pursue specific project leads
  • Aid in company marketing functions
  • Involve other Duluth personnel in business development activities
  • Represent company in professional/technical organizations such as ACEC-WI ASFE ASCE NSPE and WSPE and encourage participation by other Duluth personnel
  • Aid in developing in-house training and quality programs
  • Perform other job duties not listed as required to meet department and company needs
Directly or indirectly supervise engineering and technical personnel within the area of assignment

  • Determine work scope of projects
  • Determine content of proposals
  • Determine content of reports
  • Provide final review of engineering reports
  • To maintain the quality of service and work product
  • To market the services in a manner that is profitable to the company
  • To coordinate with other departments by clearly outlining needs of client with the ultimate goal of increasing efficiency productivity and communication
  • To provide mentoring to less experienced professional and technical staff in the areas of geotechnical engineering materials engineering and testing engineering observations and other areas of work as needed
  • To conduct all activities in a safe efficient manner
  • Education - BS degree in Civil or Geological Engineering minimum
  • A minimum of 10 years of previous construction material or geotechnical engineering experience or 7 years of experience with Master’s Degree
  • Professional Registration
  • Ability to occasionally lift 50 to 70 pounds
  • Ability to perform field services throughout the working day
  • Many duties outdoors and away from main office/laboratory location
  • Personal vehicle available for company business
  • Occasional travel
