The Senior Infrastructure Architect will be a highly motivated, experienced senior engineer interested in investigating technologies and developing standard configurations and processes. This role is a key member of the Storage and Data Protection Engineering team, which is responsible for architecture and design of storage and data protection technology across GE. This individual will have a thorough understanding of storage technologies and use that to develop solutions for the GE businesses.

Essential Responsibilities
The Senior Infrastructure Architect – Storage and Data Protection Engineering role will:
  • Be a technology leader in the storage and data protection space for all of GEs shared global data centers
  • Will be responsible for selecting, understanding and investigating storage and data protection technologies and the development of standard configurations and processes for large enterprise level environments
  • Lead large-scale, advanced storage and data protection technology projects and New Technology Introductions (NTI) to deliver new and enhanced storage and data protection technology for petabytes of business critical data across multiple continents and global data centers
  • Identify and drive the implementation of advanced storage and data protection technologies such as virtualization, automated storage tiring, data de-duplication, thin-provisioning, compression, encryption, and replication to further improve performance, reliability and enhanced operations of GEs core storage and data protection infrastructure
  • Conduct project reviews, feasibility, cost benefit analysis, prioritization, initiation, execution for all project related work related to assigned programs and projects
  • Develop strong relationships with various GE businesses units, constituents and business partners to insure proper business alignment between business strategy and storage and data protection needs, goals and initiatives
  • Provide direction and leadership in storage and data protection strategy and technology development for incorporation into the overall GE Storage and Data Protection Infrastructure roadmap and strategic plan
  • Provide technical leadership and consultation to GE businesses and GE internal teams
  • Thoroughly test, evaluate and document storage and data protection technology to ensure that it is deployed in the most flexible and efficient fashion possible
  • Manage project team resources to investigate, evaluate and document technologies (onshore & offshore)
  • Provide mentoring and technical guidance to various storage and data protection organizations within GE
  • Use Project Management Methodology and LEAN Six Sigma quality tools and rigor in investigating and evaluating technologies
  • Abide by all GE Corporate and local policies and procedures including but not limited to Integrity, Diversity, Proprietary Information, Conflict of Interest and EHS

    Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems / Computer Science or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience architecting, deploying and managing storage and data protection technologies (EMC, HDS, XIV, Cisco, Brocade, NetApp, Symmantec, etc.)

    Desired Characteristics
  • Expert knowledge and experience with large scale enterprise storage technologies such as replication, compression, de-duplication, and encryption methodologies
  • Expert knowledge and experience with storage infrastructure management and performance tools (ECC, Prosphere, DFM, DCNM, SMC, and SPA)
  • Expert knowledge and experience with enterprise backup tools (Netbackup, Commvault)
  • Deep knowledge of host side technologies including CNA, HBA, logical volume managers, clustering and distributed filesystems
  • Deep knowledge of VMware, Windows, Unix, Linux, and Client technologies and best practices
  • Independent worker with proven ability to lead and execute multiple projects in a demanding environment
  • Demonstrated experience working with software / hardware vendors and managing outside resources to provide technology solutions
  • Proven ability to develop, document and clearly communicate designs, roadmaps, strategies, and processes
  • Excellent interpersonal, written / verbal communication, organizational and leadership skills, communicates in a clear and succinct manner across all organizational levels
  • Deep experience with standard project management processes and gating methodologies

  • Excellent track record of understanding and interest in current and emerging technologies demonstrated through training, job experience and / or industry activities
