The purpose of this position is to provide support for current international students and incoming students, maintain international student records, assist with recruitment of international students, and contribute to the international student activity schedule. The primary duty in assisting incoming students is accomplished by processing I-20s in SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) and all related certification requirement records required to enter the United States, and updating SEVIS files. Other duties include: training and supervising student assistants; handling international health insurance issues, and providing workshops and orientations for international students.
Processes SEVIS I-20s under the guidelines provided by the Department of Homeland Security ( DHS ), and maintains data and quality control management by collecting and reviewing documents; completing SEVIS I-20s; updating records to reflect any changes; responding to questions via email and telephone; and liaising with the application processing center staff to ensure transfer of I-20 ready files.
Provides recruitment support by answering prospective student emails; providing accurate immigration information to international students, faculty and staff; helping to maintain accurate recruitment materials; and giving admissions presentations and traveling to recruit students.
Assists with student activities; including event planning and publicizing; booking venues; facilitating on the event day; and gathering feedback post-event.
Cross-trains with PDSO to assist in maintaining and updating SEVIS records for current students by completing OPT , CPT and OPT extensions; approving on-campus employment; processing program extensions; processing withdrawals, cancellations, reinstatements and terminations in SEVIS ; processing and approving transfer documents in SEVIS ; approving reduced course loads, changes in majors and requests to leave the United States; updating SEVIS databases including alerts, data fixes and corrections; notifying international students of SEVIS alerts; and completing required SEVIS reporting.
Attends and contributes to staff meetings, supervises student assistants; orders academic health insurance for international students; trains student assistants; and provides workshops and participates in international orientation
Bachelor’s degree required.
More than one years of related experience in International Student Programs. Customer service oriented and team player skills are required.
Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Must have current knowledge and understanding of US immigration laws and regulations regarding international students and exchange visitors.
