Applications are being accepted for a three-year, half-time limited appointment as a Senior Leadership Education Specialist at the East-West Center. The East-West Center is a federally funded research and educational organization devoted to enhancing relations between the United States and countries of the Asia-Pacific region. Located adjacent to the University of Hawaii Manoa campus, the Center engages 550 students annually for degree study at the University of Hawaii and Hawaii Pacific University (primarily at the graduate level), and for non-degree study through its leadership programs launched nearly twelve years ago. Over 60 countries are represented in the East-West Center student body, with approximately 70% from the Asia Pacific region, 20% from the US., and 10% from other parts of the world. This diverse mix of students contributes to creating a distinctive international residential community with opportunities for continuous formal and informal learning.

This position is responsible for developing leadership education at the East-West Center, in particular the Asia Pacific Leadership Program (APLP) and the Leadership Certificate, Advanced Leadership Program, the Brunei-US Program, and new leadership program initiatives. The position is responsible for enhancing the competitive advantage of the APLP; for design and operational management of the Center’s leadership curriculum; for developing leadership outreach activities; for strengthening external funding support for EWC leadership education; and for teaching leadership theory practice. Major duties include conceptualizing, designing and implementing the leadership education curriculum and developing a leadership learning community; building a competitive niche for APLP in the international marketplace; co-leading the operational aspects of APLP; integrating leadership curriculum of APLP and new leadership initiatives with regional core issues curriculum; co-directing recruitment and selection of participants; developing external funding support for leadership programs; designing and coordinating the Leadership Certificate program for degree fellows; advancing the field of leadership education through scholarly publication; and serving as an expert resource for other EWC education and training programs. The Senior Specialist also designs and teaches advanced international leadership education at the graduate and executive education levels; collaboratively integrates the Leadership Seminar with other key program elements within APLP; and teaches in newly developing areas of applied leadership such as environmental sustainability and other short intensive programs and leadership initiatives.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. degree or equivalent in a social science with Asia Pacific specialization. Five years of experience teaching leadership theory and practice to graduate students from the Asia Pacific region and the U.S., in international leadership education programs. Demonstrated expertise in leading a diverse learning community and building networks. Experience designing, implementing and developing all aspects of long-term, residential leadership programs with early-to-mid career international participants. A record of successful experience in leadership education initiatives and partnerships with Asia Pacific institutions and professionals.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS : Experience working with other sectors besides higher education, preferably business.

SALARY: Salary is $41,753.50 per year, plus a cost-of-living allowance (COLA) currently at 12.25% (subject to change) and an attractive benefits package.
