THIS RECRUITMENT WILL GENERATE A 6-MONTH ELIGIBLE LIST TO FILL CURRENT AND FUTURE VACANCIES FOR THE SENIOR LIBRARIAN POSITIONS AT ALL BRANCH LOCATIONS WITHIN MCPL.
The current vacancy exist at Germantown Library, however, is subject to change.

Library hours of operation are Sunday through Saturday including nights. Individual schedules will vary based on customer service needs. Sunday hours may be required at any branch.

Senior Librarian/Assistant Branch Manager
Employee assists the manager with the planning, delivery and evaluation of day to day operation and management of the branch; assists the manager in the planning and supervision of all library services; assists the Branch Manager in supervising staff; assists in the planning and monitoring of branch operations and customer service; assists in resolving customer service concerns and complaints; trains, develops and evaluates staff; responds to personnel concerns/complaints and resolves problematic/difficult issues; collaborates with other supervisory staff to reinforce activities and services in support of MCPL's strategic plan, mission statement and vision; assists the manager in maintaining and developing the branch materials' collection; assists in planning and implementing branch programs; serves on system-wide committees and task forces; participates in professional, cooperative, and community organizations; assists manager in planning, implementing and evaluating Departmental policies and procedures; provides direct library service to a diverse community which includes children, teens, adults, seniors and people with disabilities; assists the public with their needs for reader's advisory information and reference; is proficient in the policies and procedures of circulation services; assists and instructs customers on the use of electronic resources including OPAC, Internet, databases, libguides, ereaders and library software; coordinates Sunday service which includes scheduling staff; assists with tracking building maintenance and repair work, and contributes to the branch's physical plan in terms of safety, security and cleanliness. Keeps abreast of current trends in electronic media, social networking, literature and publishing, Internet sites, databases, periodicals, and other media, and assists in training staff and customers.
Serves as member of the branch Leadership Team, and as such can be in charge when manager is not scheduled.
Service can be provided in the stacks with or without electronic devices, at an information point within the branch or outside our walls in the community. Service may be provided in person, by telephone, electronically or by social media.

Education: Master's degree in Library Science or Library Information Science from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association.
Experience : Four (4) years of professional library experience.
Equivalency: No equivalency applies.
Licensure : Employees will be responsible for maintaining appropriate level of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to sustain State licensure requirements for this position.

Employees meeting minimum qualifications who are same grade or higher will be placed on Eligible List as a "Transfer" candidate and may be considered for an interview. Note: In the event there are five or less minimally qualified candidates, all will be placed on the Eligible List as Qualified and will be interviewed.
1. Assists branch manager in recommending the planning, implementing and evaluating innovative library services to a diverse community using a variety of methods.
2. Knowledge of MCPL policies and procedures.
3. Experience in leading a service or team.
4. Experience in conducting staff training and providing input into performance evaluations.
5. Possesses good organizational skills.
6. Understands principles of collection management and development, and how to tailor a collection to the local community.
