The USC Libraries' Technical Services unit is seeking a Serials Cataloger/Authority Control Coordinator to join its team. The Serials Cataloger/Authority Control Coordinator is an integral part of the Libraries' Serials and Music Cataloging Section. As such, the individual will provide bibliographic records for serial titles missing from the catalog, create and maintain MARC21 holdings records, and coordinate authority control activities across the department. The person in the position will perform the following specific and other related duties:: Create and maintain MARC21 holdings format records (serials) Create and maintain MARC21 bibliographic format records (serials) Create and maintain MARC21 authorities format records Process serials change requests from Public Service units Initially, the Serials Cataloger/Authority Control Coordinator will provide support primarily for the Grand Depository Library inventory project, concentrating on providing needed MARC21 holdings records. As that project winds down, the emphasis will shift to authority work instead, which will become the main focus for this position over time. The incumbent will be responsible for: training and supervising student assistants engaged in authority work; reviewing reports from the local SirsiDynix Integrated Library System (ILS); and reviewing reports from the Library of Congress and OCLC. Eventually, this individual will assume the role of Name Authority Cooperative Program (NACO) contact for USC. The successful candidate will have experience with: MARC21 formats for bibliographic, holdings, and authority data AACR2 and/or RDA and the Library of Congress classification schedules Library of Congress Subject Headings OCLC and online integrated systems Non-English language materials Working under pressure at a variety of tasks This is a full-time position and is eligible for employee benefits consistent with the positions status at the university. Minimum Field of Expertise:
Thorough knowledge of general library operations. Understanding of library databases and Library of Congress standards. Working knowledge of standard bibliographic and other reference tools. General knowledge of department and library activities, policies, and procedures. Ability to work under pressure at a variety of tasks. Aptitude for detail and accuracy. Understanding of cataloging rules and procedures. Ability to train and supervise student assistants.
