Provides support to the Litigation team, primarily on intellectual property litigation and prosecution matters. Ensures that business and IP practices, policies, and dealings of Company meet the applicable legal requirements. Researches, interprets, and prepares legal and business communications, documents and agreements. Assists attorneys in various phases of litigation, including the coordination of internal factual discovery and electronic discovery. Assists attorneys in managing innovation protection program. Maintains litigation and prosecution dockets, for responding to USPTO and federal court deadlines. Assists in overseeing the work of outside counsel to ensure effective and cost-efficient services are performed.
1-Assists attorneys in litigation case management through all stages, including vendor indemnity request, document preparation, document collection, electronic discovery coordination, and witness preparation.
2-Drafts correspondence to vendors requesting participation in related litigation and responds to vendor information requests.
3-Coordinates with Cox employees to gather relevant facts and documents necessary for preparation of the case. Assists inside and outside counsel in responding to document requests in a timely fashion.
4-Identifies, collects and manages electronic documents; works with Electronic Discovery team to locate custodial data.
5-Develops and maintains working relationship with outside litigation counsel to ensure the expeditious transfer of information necessary to support attorneys activities. Manages litigation dockets and databases for prompt and timely response to courts calendar.
6-Manages invention disclosure process including the receipt of disclosures and organizing of disclosure meetings between Cox inventors and outside counsel.
7-Ensures outside counsel adheres to patent prosecution schedule.
8-Coordinates the transfer of patent application drafts and formal documents between Cox and outside prosecution counsel.
9-Manages internal patent prosecution database and works with administrative assistants to ensure timely edits and updates to database fields.
10-Assists in administering IP awards program by coordinating with Human Resources to ensure timely payments to Cox innovators.
11-Performs routine legal research and compiles data from internal and external references and sources such as digests, encyclopedias, practice manuals, databases or other printed or electronic sources.
12-Prepares initial drafts of contracts, memoranda, and other documents requiring specific knowledge of the formatting of legal documents, specific language and forms management for attorney review.
13-Reviews, proofreads and compiles a variety of other correspondence related to the normal functioning of the department or other ongoing administration of existing cases or orders.
14-Gathers facts, identifies risks, and makes recommendations to supervising attorneys in order to remediate issues and solve problems.
15-Provides project specific support on legal issues as requested by supervising attorney.
16-Proactively and continually develops or adapts procedures, techniques, tools, materials and/or equipment to meet special needs and improve efficiencies.
17-Assists in the development and presentation of materials to be used in seminars or other presentations.
18-Assistance as needed ranging from taking messages to drafting letters, setting up meetings and appointments, typing documents, proofing documents, returning phone calls, updating contacts lists, and projects as requested.
19-Handles information of a confidential nature, such as Company information, for various purposes.
20-Handles various aspects of settlements and expense functions as needed.
21-Responsible for setting up and maintaining files.
22-Coordinates meetings and appointments for the attorney.
1. HS diploma, GED or relevant work experience.
2. 5+ year of experience in litigation with a strong preference for specific Intellectual Property experience .
3. Requires strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint.
4. Excellent writing skills.
5. Excellent organizational and project management skills.
6. Excellent judgment and initiative.
7. Excellent negotiation skills.
8. Paralegal degree/certificate, undergraduate degree or equivalent.
