This position in responsible for providing agronomy leadership across RAI OpCo’s. This position will lead in the strategy, development and implementation of innovative agricultural programs for the Leaf group that align with Operations and Corporate strategies. Manage initiatives that transform tobacco production within the RAI grower base. This person maintains a strong credibility throughout the agricultural community, extension services and universities and demonstrates ability to manage change cross functionally.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
• Develops strategy and provides leadership and guidance to growers on agronomic practices including greenhouse plant production, field plant populations, tillage systems, irrigation plans, soil and water conservation practices, insect and disease control and agrichemical use.
• Provides direction to ensure key business needs are met. Must supply basic agricultural scientific concepts and apply them to technologies, products or research.
• Develop protocols for proprietary tobacco growing projects.
• Provides applied agronomic consultation across all Leaf projects.
• Interacts with and builds relationships with outside departments and suppliers (contract growers, university extension) to drive innovation and transformation within the business and industry.
• Provides leadership to assist others in solving complex problems.
• Work with University Extension staff on tobacco production issues and advancement.
• Prepares and maintains annual budget and ensures programs are completed within allocated time and budget.
Position Qualification:
Ph. D in Crop Science, Agricultural Sciences plus two years’ relevant experience
Masters in Crop Science, Agriculture Sciences plus five years of progressive relevant experience
• Awareness of Good Agricultural Practices for different tobacco types.
• Knowledge of tobacco production practices.
• Working relationship with state university extension staff.
• Extensive understanding of the tobacco industry and current trends.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, decision making, problem solving, influencing and leadership skills.
• Proficient computer skills.
• Recognizing and adapting to change in RAI focus and industry change.
• Prior experience in applied tobacco production and other agronomic practices.
• Willingness to take responsibility and accountability.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage complex projects and manage resources effectively.
• Demonstrated ability to coach others.
Extensive domestic and international travel required.
