Position Summary:

Designs, develops, modifies and tests/debugs company applications; delivers new systems or improves system functionality to meet user requirements. Provides programming support; participates in code and design reviews for other programmers. Develops technical documentation and participates in performance monitoring for assigned applications.

Technical/Functional Expectations:

  • Application Programming: Designs, writes, tests, diagrams, creates flow charts and delivers code in the agreed-upon time frame and with minimal defects.
  • Business Process Analysis: Acts as liaison with specified business units; confers with end users to define business processes for systems application and integration.
  • Testing/Debugging: Performs root cause analysis by researching code, conducting tests, monitoring results, and validating results with peers.
  • System Integration: Participates in integrating divergent system components to work together effectively. Explores and utilizes new and existing technical solutions.
  • System Documentation: Develops system design specifications and quality assurance documentation in order to provide technical and operational instructions and information to system programmers and end users.
  • Project Management: Manages scope, schedule and deliverables of multiple small to medium projects. Interfaces with multiple departments to ensure that implementations adhere to established standards. Communicates and resolves project issues with internal and external departments.

  • Business Experience:

  • 5+ years developing client server and web-based software in the insurance industry (e.g., policy administration, claims, etc...)
  • Experience with JQuery, Javascript, Web 2.0 and Java Spring Framework
  • Knowledge of databases; experience in integrating software from different vendors
    with expertise in dealing with rules-based engines and scripting.
  • Experience in COBOL, CHANGEMAN, JCL, VSA, as well as using Computer
    Associates tools or equivalent for editing, testing, debugging, etc.
  • Knowledge of SQL Server; experience in WebServices and SOA as well as developing GUI on Windows and Java platforms including using SUN and Windows tools.

  • Educational Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • BA/BS in Computer Science or related field strongly preferred.

  • Minimum starting annualized salary: $65,910 + DOE.
