The Sales Engineer's primary responsibility is to assist our Telco/Carrier sales team with technical sales activities for new and existing opportunities. Sales Engineers will have in-depth knowledge of VSS solutions, competitors' offerings and can demonstrate competitive advantages to both Prospects and Partners. The Sales Engineer is a critical component to the Sales Cycle and is designed to display an in-depth knowledge about VSS and industry related solutions and trends. Must be technically savvy, highly motivated, and self-directed.
VSS seeks a Sales Engineer with abilities to conduct online product demonstrations, answer technical questions, contribute to proposals, and analyze client needs to provide technical solutions in a pre-sales technical role. In additional to technological aptitude, and the ability to learn quickly and stay current, the ideal candidate's interpersonal, presentation and troubleshooting skills evoke passion and confidence.

RESPONSIBILTIES:
Maintain strong knowledge of VSS Monitoring's solutions, able to deliver superb demos and technical pitches, including an overview of our key features and benefits, product offerings, differentiation, and competitive positioning.

Based on pre-demo scoping information provided by and with the sales, business development & customer support teams, conduct individually-tailored product demos for prospects and partners.

Be able to address the majority of technical questions concerning customization, integration, and general feature / functionality of our products.

Know where to escalate within the VSS technical organization, and make effective use of those resources.

Facilitate the completion of RFI and RFP projects, based upon templates created in advance wherever possible.

Demonstrate knowledge of competitor's products and able to position VSS successfully against the competition.

Support field marketing events (trade shows, conferences) as assigned to assist with technical presence in booth.

Provide technical leadership to entire sales team as appropriate (ex/ handle escalation questions, conduct training and/or briefings at quarterly kick off).

Provide timely and complete customer-based feedback to Product Management, Sales, Support and/or Development regarding customer requirements.

Document and track all activity through Salesforce, including lead/prospect data entry, detailed activity reports, setting tasks for follow-up.

Prepare and perform appropriate follow-up communications, sending of marketing and collateral materials to prospective clients.

Consistently improve personal product knowledge, industry knowledge and communication skills.

Training delivery to Partners, and VSS Monitoring Team, supporting the Marketing organization on Content.

All other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:
At least 6+ years of experience working as a technical pre-sales engineer in the network monitoring, security solutions or network test and measurement tools industry.

Must be located within the Overland Park/Kansas City region and open to some travel to various other US customers or partners.

Previous experience with network taps, network monitoring tools, traffic generation and analysis tools and network security tools.

Familiarity with Network Security tools/ IPS/IDS tools, NetQos, NetScout, Wireshark, Spirent, Ixia.

Strong understanding of Ethernet , fiber optics, split ratios, TCP/IP, switching and routing concepts and OSI layers 1-7 concepts and protocols

B.S in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field.

Excellent communication and presentation skills (verbal and written)

Good Blend of technical knowledge as well as business issues involved in successfully closing business

Industry certifications like CISSP, CCNA is a plus

Self motivated, able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
