Position: Senior Software Engineer - Performance
Location: Boston, MA
Term: Full Time
Compensation: $110,000 - $120,000 + a 10% Bonus!

Our client in Boston, MA is an innovated / publically traded company, and they are looking to add a talented Performance Engineer to their growing team on a full time / permanent basis. The Senior Software / Performance Engineer is a strong generalist software developer with a passion for squeezing every ounce of performance out of code, who will build tools, evaluate designs and work hand-in-hand with other developers and testers to create a best-in-class distributed, high performance, scalable business-critical SaaS data platform.

Key Responsibilities:
Evaluate, design, build and maintain performance, capacity, and scalability testing, measurement and reporting tools
Work with architects and developers to implement architectural tactics, data structures and algorithms that meet performance requirements
Review business use cases, user stories and other functional and non-functional requirements to identify key performance indicators
Review design documents and code to identify potential performance bottlenecks and defects
Collaborate with developers and test engineers to create performance test strategies and identify root causes for performance defects
Promote a "performance-based" culture within the Production Engineering and Product Management teams
Measure and analyze application performance in test and pre-production environments

Required Experience:
5+ years of software development experience building applications at scale including distributed systems, multi-tier applications, and APIs
Ability to isolate problems, pinpoint bottlenecks and find solutions
Broad experience with multiple middleware and data store technologies, such as, message queues, relational databases, non-relational databases, caches, stream processing
Deep knowledge of fundamental data structures and algorithms, including big-O analysis
Familiar with concurrency concepts, including identifying and troubleshooting race conditions
Comprehensive knowledge of Linux operating system, especially process and system monitoring and performance measurement

Desired Experience (Not Required):
In-depth experience with Java application servers, Apache HTTP server
Experience with JVM tuning heap size and garbage collection
Experience with database query optimization and performance analysis
Experience with developing applications in multiple languages, such as Ruby, Python, Javascript
Familiar with Coherence or Oracle Complex Event Processing
Familiar with JMS or RabbitMQ
Familiar with measurement and analysis tools, such as, DynaTrace or Splunk
