The position supports the NEA’s strategic objective to focus the energy and resources of its 3+ million members toward the promotion of public education by providing technical expertise in Senior Storage and Systems Administration in a complex, multi-server Web-centric technical infrastructure

Position Summary: The incumbent serves as a Senior Storage and Systems Administrator in a complex, multi-server technical infrastructure, where UNIX and Windows systems are utilized as the enterprise Web, Application and Oracle Database Servers. Essential functions include technical expertise in systems configuration, capacity planning, troubleshooting, and software integration on physical and virtual servers. The incumbent monitors daily system processes, provisions storage, ensures successful data backups, troubleshoots system errors, and evaluates and applies software patches. The incumbent also maintains system security, upgrades and supports software on EMC, Cisco, UNIX, and Linux applications, works with hardware and software vendors on system issues, and writes technical documentation.

Required Skills MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENT : B.A. or B.S., with graduate or advanced studies in a technical field or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills may be acquired. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

: Minimum of five years of progressively responsible business-oriented experience involving the administration of EMC Storage Area Networks (SAN), Network Attached Storage (NAS), and of UNIX, Linux, and Windows server operations as required for enterprise system planning, design, integration, installation, implementation and support of a UNIX/Linux/Windows/Oracle environment. OTHER REQUIREMENTS : Technical documentation, system diagrams or other samples of work products may be required at time of interview. Applicant must have a job history that demonstrates an ability to learn new technologies and adapt to new software requirements. Some travel required (15-20 overnights per year), occasional extended hours, and on weekends. Required Experience Tier 1 (Essential): Proven expertise working as team member with significant responsibility in all phases of storage engineering and administration, systems administration, installation, implementation, troubleshooting and problem resolution. Demonstrated experience and expertise with EMC Symmetrix SANs, Cisco MDS 9000-series storage fabric networks, Symmetrix Management Console and Performance Analyzer. Must have strong hands on experience in storage replication technologies and the configuration of multisite storage systems. Proven experience and extensive knowledge of several of the following technologies; SAN, NAS, DAS, iSCSI, FC, NFS, FCoE, Infiniband, Ethernet, TCP/IP. HP-UX and Red Hat Linux (some Windows 2008) systems administration, emphasizing monitoring of system resource usage, network configuration, and release upgrades. Proven experience installing, configuring, and administering enterprise backup software, especially HP Data Protector. Demonstrated expertise in provisioning storage to VMware ESX virtual server environments. Demonstrated high-level analytical, interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively. Proven flexibility and effectiveness in handling multiple and complex projects simultaneously under stringent timeframes and changing priorities/conditions. Experience with best practices for enforcing system security. Successful references. Tier 2 (Significant) : Experience with other enterprise-class storage vendors and technology, like NetApp, Brocade, etc. Experience in Disaster Recovery testing, data replication technologies (especially Oracle Data Guard) and its testing, implementation, monitoring. Tier 3 (Desirable): Knowledge of firewalls, intrusion detection software, messaging software. Experience with clustered applications, load balancers and Oracle Database Administration. Knowledge of programs and objectives of the Information Technology Services department.
