Pivotal is seeking a senior level Systems Administrator to join our team in designing, building and managing our physical, virtual and cloud based infrastructure. Have you ever calculated the power load and cooling capacity in your basement, just to figure out how much you could run down there? Have you graduated beyond web servers and ldap servers to full scale global web and authentication infrastructures? Are you equally as comfortable cabling in the hot row as you are deploying a vSwitch? Then we would like to meet you.

What do we need from you?
Senior/Advisory level systems and network administration talent and experience with solid experience designing wide-scale virtual and physical infrastructures and systems. This can mean anything from global authentication frameworks to private clouds to the datacenters they may both reside in. You should have a firm grasp of HA and DR. You should be uncowed at the idea of rolling your own and you should be capable and willing to own and lead projects. You should be fluid, comfortable and highly competent in a heterogeneous systems environment. Which flavor of OS or distro shouldn’t matter to you. You should be familiar with cloud-based infrastructures such as VCD, AWS and Rackspace. We will work with many teams, communicate with many people, work with vendors, help define budgets and timelines. We design, plan, implement and maintain and we’re all as likely to set up Nginx as we are to sit down with executives. We share, communicate and train each other. We do travel as needed, but not all the time. We are building the Special Forces, not the whole Army.
What technologies do you use?
Some, of many, in no particular order or grouping: LDAP, VMware, Active Directory, Apache, Nginx, DNS, DHCP, Configuration management such as Puppet or Chef, OpenVPN, iptables, pf, samba, CUPS, Snort, Splunk, MIT KRB5, RSA, AWS, FC-AL, SAN, NAS, iSCSI, git, SVN
Important concepts: Disaster recovery, high availability, globally distributed services, geographic load balancing, lab and datacenter design.

Qualifications and factors for success:
5+ years experience with small, medium and/or enterprise infrastructures.

2+ years designing and deploying these infrastructures.

Adaptability, agility and perspicacity.

The ability and willingness to wear whichever hat the task at hand requires.

Strong experience with virtualization and cloud technologies such as VMware vSphere, VMware VCD, AWS, Rackspace, Xen, Openstack.

Strong experience working with and integrating SaaS providers.

Strong datacenter experience.

Programming skills in relevant languages such as Python, Ruby or Perl, is desirable.

Networking competence. Experience with Cisco iOS is desirable.

Storage experience, including SANs.

Strong security skills and knowledge.

Very strong experience with multiple flavors of *nix (including OSX) and Windows.

The ability to develop creative solutions to problems, complex and mundane.

Strong teamwork skills along with the ability to work independently.

Experience working with globally distributed networks, sites and groups.

Demonstrated ability to communicate at all levels of technical expertise and seniority, inside and outside the organization, both verbally and in writing.

Education and certification is desirable but not required.
