The Senior Systems and Network Analyst/Programmer will report to the Lead Systems and Network Administrator, and will provide planning and technical expertise in the installation, configuration, security, maintenance and troubleshooting of computer hardware, software, operating systems and networking in a Solaris, Linux, Windows and Mac environment. The incumbent will work within the computing support group and support computing and networking needs across the campus. Specifically the incumbent will work as a member of the LDEO Computer Support Group which maintains the campus computing infrastructure including but not limited to email, home directory storage & backup, data storage & backup, application & license servers, web, network routers & switches, DNS, LDAP, NIS, SMB, DHCP, FTP, etc. Additionally, the Senior Analyst will participate in strategic planning and provide information to help with the budgeting process. Ensure that the day-to-day operation of the LDEO computing systems, and networks remains secure and reliable. Deploy upgrades and patches to enhance security, reliability and function. Troubleshoot UNIX, Mac OS X & Windows hardware and software problems with users and central systems. Strategic planning and budgeting. Provide project guidance to two PC/Mac support staff and supervise them in the absence of the Lead Systems and Network Administrator. None. Participates in budget process for IT projects, and hardware acquisition. This position is located on the Lamont Campus in Rockland County, NY.
Minimum Qualifications for Grade Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant
Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree desirable. Minimum 5 - 7 years of related professional experience required. Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining Internet services in a Unix/Linux environment. Thorough understanding of the various Unix operating systems. Years of experience in managing a heterogeneous networked computing environment including Solaris, Windows, Mac, Linux, DNS, NIS, SMB, DHCP, FTP, SSH and OpenLDAP. Strong experience with email services, including Sendmail, Spamassassin, MimeDefang and Perdition IMAP proxy. Working knowledge of network storage systems and RAID storage including recovery and expansion. Working knowledge of ZFS file systems and snapshots. Working knowledge of C, C++, HTML, Perl, Fortran, shell scripting & SQL. Strong customer service orientation. Demonstrated excellent written and spoken English; demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills. Demonstrated experience working effectively with diverse user communities including highly skilled programmers, scientists, administrators, purchasing agents, vendors, students, and support staff. Demonstrated organizational and project management success. Proven attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects while functioning on a team. Good independent judgment.
