Our technical safety team has been providing unrivalled safety consulting services, which permits the effective execution of practical engineering and support solutions in oil and gas upstream and downstream processing for over 40 years.
Atkins has supported some assets from design to installation and through life extension or decommissioning.
We work on some of the most exciting and varied projects in the oil and gas sector, and provide consultancy services across a wide range of disciplines and facilities covering offshore, terminals, refineries, petrochemical plants and pipelines.
We currently have a unique opportunity for a Senior/Principal Technical Safety Engineer to join our oil and gas team, based in Houston.
Leading technical safety consultancy work for all types of offshore structures including fixed, floating and subsea as well as onshore facilities.
Delivering high quality technical safety services to oil and gas industry clients
Managing your own and others cost and time targets.
Developing client relationships, proposals and tenders.
Liaising with other disciplines, team members and third parties to ensure all client requirements are addressed.
This may include process, dynamic simulation, structural, CFD, reliability, environmental, human factors etc.
Liaising with clients engineering, construction and operations personnel to ensure all project requirements have been addressed.
Maintaining awareness of changes in the relevant technology, codes and inspection tools.
Engineering degree, honors or equivalent in chemical, mechanical, risk engineering
Professional Engineering License or Chartered Engineer preferred
Safety professional with a substantial level of oil and gas safety experience (+7yrs)
Strong business development/management skills
An experienced line and project manager
Excellent report writing, presentation skills etc.
Exemplary technical competence in at least one of the following aspects of safety engineering / risk assessment:
PHA facilitation (What if, HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL, etc.)
Consequence modeling of hydrocarbon release, dispersion, fires and explosions. In addition to having up to date knowledge and practical experience of software used to support consequence modeling.
Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA)
Safety and Risk Management
Safety Case/COMAH reporting
Authoring ALARP documentation, or similar
Self-motivating, with the ability to supervise a team of safety engineers
Understands operations and integrity interfaces and has a good appreciation of clients' business risk drivers
Ability to cope rapidly with challenging problems and desire to progress to Chief Engineer and beyond
