TD Ameritrade is looking for a Senior UNIX/Linux Engineer for its Jersey City, NJ location.
This position works at the highest systems level to ensure maximum system uptime and availability. The candidate will also be responsible for performance analysis and tuning, capacity planning, provisioning and day-to-day operations. He or she will identify and/or react to problems related to the technology infrastructure or in support of the UNIX/Linux environment. This candidate must have the ability to demonstrate a broad knowledge level across multiple areas of information technology. The candidate may also be involved as a key team member on strategic or enterprise-wide technology issues.

Support the Linux/UNIX environment including activities such as provisioning, maintenance & troubleshooting.
Have a general knowledge of server, virtualization, network and enterprise storage technologies.
Participate in the implementation of agreed upon solutions and strategies.
Serve as a primary technical contact on projects, as assigned.
Troubleshoot technical issues, using various internal and external resources.
Generate innovative approaches and solutions to recurring tasks or problems.
Document technical problems, resolutions, and processes for assigned tasks and projects.
Participate in post-mortem process for problems as appropriate.
Experience following formal procedures for change and incident management.
Participate in on-call rotation, ability to provide 24x7 production support.

Strong understanding of networking, infrastructure and client side architectures, software lifecycle, and system design.
Strong understanding of the IBM / HP Server platform.
Working knowledge of the Intel chipset architecture and offerings.
Expert knowledge in RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or SuSE Enterprise Linux (SLES) and Solaris 10.
Working knowledge in conducting performance analysis of physical and virtual servers, including CPU, Memory and I/O utilization.
Working knowledge of Enterprise NAS/SAN technologies and Logical Volume Manager or Veritas Storage Foundation.
Working knowledge of Enterprise clustering technologies including Linux Cluster Server or Veritas Cluster Server.
Perl or Shell scripting skills are required.
Experience within e-commerce or financial services industry preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent skills necessary in Word, Excel, Presentation and Visio.
Strong understanding of project management methodologies and processes.
Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Experience with system configuration/management tools (CFengine/Puppet/Chef/RHN) is a plus.
Ability to create System Run Books, defining day-to-day support, maintenance, troubleshooting knowledge base of the infrastructure.
Excellent analytical skills and the ability to apply them towards the investigation of existing installations.
Ability to establish best practices for monitoring and forecasting of system/application capacity.
Must be able to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
5+ years RHEL/SLES Linux experience.
7+ years in enterprise server experience.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
