Sion‚s exciting new technology is based on the elements lithium and sulfur which combined yield a battery system with the highest theoretical gravimetric energy density for any pair of solid materials, and offer significant improvements in performance over current rechargeable batteries. SUMMARY This position will lead the technical engineering staff conducting research and development efforts for anode development operations related to vacuum deposited lithium and associated processes. Additionally, the successful candidate will lead process development utilizing a variety of vacuum, coating, slitting and delaminating/relaminating machines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Plans and formulates all aspects of anode development efforts through vacuum process research and development proposals; establishes objectives, costs projections, equipment and human resource requirements responding to company strategic and tactical changes as required. * Coordinates with all other company departments to ensure timely response to research production requests and technical assistance. Identifies and minimizes systemic production bottlenecks. * Communicates organizational goals and achievements in a timely manner; creates a working environment where all employees are highly motivated and work cooperatively with each other; recognizes and rewards individual excellence.

  • Responsible for operation and scheduling of vacuum systems and vacuum web coating systems. * Consults with team members to review results to develop and implement process improvement plan to optimized anode performance as required. * Work with external vendors when necessary. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Ph.D.
in Physics, Engineering, Materials Science or Chemistry with at least 10 years experience managing and leading a vacuum process R&D group in the development of commercial products is required. Preferred Skills Include: Extensive experience in vacuum thin film coating process development is essential, and process modeling experience is desired. Also valued is deposition system design, modification, maintenance and safety with particular emphasis on thermal evaporation, DC and RF sputtering, and plasma treatment technologies along with reactive deposition processes in general. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to speak and understand English in a manner that is sufficient for effective communication with supervisors, employees, beneficiaries and customers, based on the assumption that such individuals can only speak and understand English.

This position also requires the ability to present information and data to large groups of people. COMPUTER LITERACY The Candidate must be fluent in the use of personal computers for the standard office automation tasks (MS Windows environment and word processing, spread sheet, electronic mail, project management and presentation software) MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Must demonstrated the successful application of these graduate level mathematical skills in process design, equipment design and fabrication, experimental design, data acquisition and reduction and process modeling and simulation in the past. REASONING ABILITY Strong analytical and reasoning skills are required with the ability to analyze diverse data streams and integrate the knowledge gained into the corporate knowledge base and then plot the most efficient path toward the goal. Clear thinking and honed reasoning and analytical skills are absolutely essential to do this successfully.

PHYSICAL DEMAND While performing the duties of the job, the employee will be required to regularly use a PC, telephone, lift objects, speak, hear, and write. The employee may need to work in a dry room (~–60 °C Dew Point) for 6 or more hours a day at times, may be required to handle or transport packaged chemicals and work with potentially hazardous and/or toxic chemicals, with appropriate protective clothing and apparatus. The employee should be able to lift and move 25 pounds and could be called upon to lift or move up to 50 pounds on occasion. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT The Candidate will be immersed in a fast paced, ever changing environment. This person must be able to adapt quickly, meet deadlines and goals, and interface with all levels of employees both internal and external to the company. While performing the duties of this job, the person will occasionally work near hazardous and/or toxic chemicals, energized electronic and manufacturing equipment, and office machines in both laboratory and office environments. TRAVEL Some travel may be required in order to carry out the essential duties and responsibilities listed above.
