The Senior Vice President and Physician in Chief (SVP/PiC) will be a credible and respected pediatric leader with experience in medical department and hospital strategic planning. S/he will be responsible for the development of new and existing clinical programs/services in alignment with CHRCO’s mission and market, the mobilization and growth of clinical and translational research activities and supporting infrastructure, and the creation of greater cohesion between and among clinical entities to ensure programmatic and service excellence. In addition, the SVP/PiC will oversee peer, quality, and utilization review, clinical effectiveness and patient safety initiatives, and coordinate efforts between and among the hospital, medical staff, full-time and community based physicians, and academic partners. As the hospital grows, particularly in its consideration of an affiliation with UCSF and other hospitals, the SVP/PiC will work with leadership teams across the region to develop and implement strategy enhancing clinical care and research.
The Senior Vice President & Physician in Chief will collaborate with administrative staff, Board of Directors, medical service chiefs, medical staff leadership, and clinical investigators to integrate clinical care, research, education and community service activities. S/he will provide leadership in academic relationships, as well as development of new programs, and improvement of current programs, in clinical care and research. In addition, the SVP/PiC will work to integrate full time and community based physicians into all levels of the organization, serving as an advocate and influencer – helping to communicate institutional vision and mission, and the development of comprehensive services and clinical/translational research in alignment with this vision. As CHRCO grows, s/he will also be expected to work on physician affiliation agreements with new community and academic partners. Furthermore, the SVP/PiC will be expected to promote the activities of CHRCO at the local, state, national, and international levels.
Board certification as a physician meeting the requirements for practice in the State of California;
Recognized nationally in pediatrics or a subspecialty with a distinguished record in clinical care, research, education and/or administration. Ability to communicate effectively with hospital and academic colleagues including clinicians, investigators, and educators is required;
At least 10 years of experience in a healthcare institution with concurrent education, research and patient care objectives; at least five years of hospital leadership and management experience.
Strong strategic planning and implementation experience;
Demonstrated experience in clinical programming, clinical and translational research, finance, and budgeting;
Ability to assist in the development and implementation of strategies, structures, and approaches which enhance cooperation within and among organizational stakeholders and support the development of appropriate alliances with other providers, payers, educational institutions, academic and/or other organizations;
Success in implementing and/or overseeing programs of resource management, clinical research and clinical productivity;
Experience serving in relevant national and professional organizations and boards related to health care, managed care, academic medicine, and/or policy;
A demonstrated track record in addressing challenging organizational issues, managing conflict and building buy-in amongst diverse constituents;
Strong political acumen and analytical skills; ability to problem solve and seize opportunities within ambiguous organizational environments;
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communications skills; strong ability to lead, influence and collaborate
Sensitivity to and support of the Hospital’s multiple clinical research, education, clinical care and community service missions, and passion for meeting the needs of children;
