Responsible for ensuring the welfare/safety of juveniles and staff assigned to a dormitory setting at the Willow Lane Campus. Assist the shift supervisor in supervising shift operations, employees and juveniles. Supervises the shift in the absence of the shift supervisor; makes routine and frequent inspections of all units and posts to ensure that employees are performing duties in compliance with policies and practices. Assist in the scheduling of officers and making operational shift assignments. Monitors leave and attendance of officers assigned to the shift and reports tardiness, absences and other issues to shift supervisors; reconcile/assist in the reconciliation of counts conducted during tour of duty. Evaluates the performance of subordinate correctional officers and prepares Employee Performance Appraisal forms (EPMS). Consistently advises the shift supervisor of correctional officer’s job performance and interactions with co-workers and juveniles. Counsels with and direct juveniles concerning their behavior and adjustment; counsel subordinate employees as appropriate and when necessary. Provides direction and guidance to officers to assist them in carrying out their responsibilities. Ensures that all officers assigned to his/her shift are given proper training in all operational shift assignment responsibilities. Assist in maintaining the master shift schedule; coordinates staff coverage when necessary; serves as acting sergeant as requested. Ensures highest level of sanitation and cleanliness in units, conducts inspections, submit maintenance work orders, takes appropriate corrective action to sanitation deficiencies, ensures juveniles are assigned and successfully completing chores. Routinely observe officers to ensure policies and practices are carried out as appropriate. Ensures counts, searches and other security practices are done consistently and in compliance with agency policy. Ensures recreation, canteen, religious and other services are provided, ensures Unit level system is followed and juveniles receive earned rewards, write incident reports, rules violations, use of force and other reports prior to end of shift. Utilizes the Juvenile Progressive Discipline, counsel with juveniles, acknowledges good behavior and accomplishments

Minimum and Additional Requirements:
A high school diploma and experience in correctional, security, military or police work and 30 months with DJJ or comparable security, military, correctional and/or law enforcement experience.
High School graduation or a GED and 30 months with DJJ or comparable security, military, correctional and/or law enforcement experience. Must be an officer in compliance with and certified under the LETA within six (6) months of employment. Necessary Special Requirements: Must have a 90% rate on the competency/proficiency exam and possess supervisory and teaching skills. Must pass a drug test. Considerable knowledge of state laws, institutional rules, regulations, and requirements for the control of juveniles and Child Abuse; considerable knowledge of various methods of instructing, handling and supervising juveniles in various activities. Ability to exercise good judgment and initiative in a variety of situations. Ability to prepare reports of unusual happenings, accidents or violations of rules by employees and juveniles; demonstrate skill in First Aid, CPR, PMAB, and Fire Safety Procedures. Ability to establish and maintain a satisfactory working relationship with fellow employees and the public. Must be in compliance with LETA. Drug testing required.
