R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company is seeking a Smokeless Product Development Scientist to support product development and commercialization initiatives that deliver against new product platforms in Smokeless Development. With minimal guidance, the incumbent must be capable of executing projects leading to the development and implementation of new smokeless products. The individual must be able to perform in a highly diverse, multi-functional environment and communicate effectively to deliver against goals. The scientist must be able to effectively collaborate across numerous functional areas and with external vendors to innovate new product concepts, reduce those concepts to practice at laboratory/pilot plant scale, and follow the product through implementation.

Position reports to the Director of Smokeless Product Development who is responsible for supporting Corporate initiatives around Modern Smoke Free Tobacco strategies. The scientist will be exposed to all product and materials development groups in the R&D organization and expected to quickly learn the business and establish a network. The incumbent must possess excellent project management and communication skills. This individual will manage multiple projects and must possess good time management skills. Minimal travel requirements apply.

Key responsibilities will include:
1. Innovate new product concepts based on consumer insights.
2. Design experiments, gather analytical data, make critical observations, interpret results and communicate them effectively to peers and management.
3. Identify and interact with outside vendors.
4. Create new product platforms which will lead to consumer acceptable product offerings.

Position Qualification:
5-10 years experience in smokeless tobacco product development (moist, snus, etc.)
BA, BS or MS in technical degree – biology, chemistry, engineering, food science, etc.
Demonstrated product development from concept to implementation
Capability to conceive and execute original research projects
Proficient in Microsoft Office software
Excellent project management and team work skills
Excellent interpersonal, written/oral communication and presentation skills

Knowledge of food science, emerging consumer products and associated formulations and processes
Knowledge of new technologies and unit processes
Ability to apply new technologies from other industries to tobacco business
