Consumers Union, publisher of Consumer Reports, is an independent nonprofit testing and information organization, serving only the consumer. We are comprehensive source of unbiased advice about products and services, personal finance, health, nutrition, and other consumer concerns. Since 1936, our mission has been to test products, inform the public, and protect consumers.
Consumers Union [ http://www.consumersunion.org/ www.facebook.com/ConsumersUnion ], the policy and advocacy division of Consumer Reports, is seeking to fill a paid part-time internship position in our Austin, TX office. We are seeking candidates who are current students (graduate students) or recent graduates (graduated in May 2014 or Summer 2014) to work closely with our Digital Advocacy Team on social media outreach.
Academic credits can be applied if needed (please specify in your application if your internship will be for credit and provide contact information for your academic institution representative).
NOTE: Please be sure to include your GPA on your resume and have samples of your previous written work (blogs, articles, research papers, or social media posts) available for review. Internships are filled on a rolling basis. It is suggested that you apply as soon as possible.
-Knowledge of social networking tools, especially Facebook administration and Twitter
-General knowledge of public policy
-Familiarity with our organization’s work and our advocacy issue areas
-Highly developed written communication skills
-Knowledge of effective research and reporting
-The ability to use metrics and data analysis to assist in decision making
-The ability to work with focus in a creative yet fast paced, results-oriented, data-driven environment
-Reach new audiences/ expand our network of online activists using social networking channels and assist in community engagement and management.
-Assist in the research of emerging social networks, issues, trends and policies
-Create engaging written content relevant to our advocacy issues for social media and blog posts
-Coordinate communication and copy approvals across all issue specific campaign areas with the organization.
-Maintain detailed and accurate reports of social media activity.
