The Department of Applied Socio-Behavioral Studies offers bachelor's degrees in Social Work, Anthropology/Sociology, and Criminal Justice Administration, as well as minors in all three disciplines including Child Welfare; Gerontology; and Criminal Justice Administration. The Social Work program is accredited by the Council for Social Work Education through 2014, currently has approximately 100 majors, and is regarded as a leader in Social Work education in the region. Serve as field education director for BSW program, teach Introduction to Social Work, Social Work Practice, and courses in the successful candidate's area of interest. Specialization is open. Teach nine credits each semester in addition to field education responsibilities, advise students, and serve on departmental and university committees. Excellence in teaching, continuing scholarly growth, and service to the university are required for tenure and promotion.
Minimum requirements: An MSW from a CSWE accredited program; two years of post-MSW practice experience; and previous college-level teaching experience. Additional qualifications: Excellence in teaching, continuing scholarly growth, and service in a higher education setting. Qualifications include completion of a successful interview, which includes a teaching demonstration; submission of teaching evaluations; excellent communication skills (verbal and written); ability to adapt to changing technologies that support teaching and learning; and the ability to teach across the generalist curriculum, evaluate, and advise students. Preferred: Completed doctorate or ABD (within 18 months of completion) in Social Work or related field. Other conditions of employment include verification of all earned degrees through the receipt of original transcripts and an acceptable background check report.
Teaching and advising, continued scholarly growth, and service to the department, university, and community. Effective communication skills and use of electronic teaching technology, including Skype or similar programs for online communication. Interpersonal relationship skills. Ability to use software application programs such as word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail and effective use of phone, keyboard and other office equipment. May be required to lift, stand, walk, reach with arms, etc. Travel may be required.
Full-time, tenure track, position with an anticipated start date of August 2014, contingent upon available funding. Assistant Professor rank based on qualifications.
