PROVISIONAL POSITION IN THE FILLMORE COUNTY OFFICE, PRESTON, MN THROUGH APRIL 29, 2013

Training period starting 8 hours a week and increase to full-time

Graduation from an accredited four-year college in social work or related degree and two years of related experience .
  • OR- Master's degree in social work or related degree and one year of experience in a public or private social service agency. Experience in working with victims preferred. Court advocacy experience preferred. Completion of sexual assault advocacy course preferred.
Individuals required to use County vehicles and equipment must have a valid Minnesota driver’s license and be free of any major traffic violations for the last three years.

Nature of Work:
The Social Worker for Victim Services, Fillmore County, is responsible for providing direct and indirect services to victims of sexual assault and other violent crimes. The Social Worker is also involved in presenting prevention programs in the community. The Social Worker is supervised by the Victim Services Supervisor.

Examples of Work:
Provide advocacy and information to crime victims of primarily felony level crimes
Advocate with other criminal justice system providers during the investigation, prosecution and post-sentencing phase of criminal matters
Provide crisis services to crime victims including sexual assault victims

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Knowledge of dynamics of victimization
Knowledge of criminal justice system, including victim rights
Skills in individual and class advocacy
Knowledge of and ability to work with community resources
Competency in working with diverse populations
Knowledge of and sensitivity to victim issues, victim needs
Public speaking abilities
Strong organizational skills
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing In compliance w/ the Americans with Disabilities Act the following represents the Physical/Environmental Demands: This position requires a majority of time (up to 75%) spent in a seated position. Some standing or walking is required and objects to be lifted or carried are usually no more than ten (10). Adverse movements such as reaching, stooping, twisting and bending are sometimes required. Excellent sensory skills are important (sight, hearing and speech) as well as ability to communicate effectively. Fine motor skills are necessary for repetitive activities such as writing and computer work. Some exposure to adverse working conditions such as extreme heat and cold when working outside.
