Software Engineers, Quant
We are looking for Software Engineers to develop scalable, fault-tolerant geospatially driven data products around our expanding collection of data sets, including weather measurements, agricultural models, geological surveys, satellite images, and climate model outputs. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to something truly new and useful: technology that enables people to quantify and visualize location-specific weather risks everywhere on Earth.
What you will do:
Develop and refine scalable, fault-tolerant services for terabytes of geo-spatial and other data
Automate data pipelines to model, process, manage and visualize data from diverse sources
Implement efficient algorithms for diverse and challenging applications
Work with world-class machine-learning and big data research scientists to deliver features in a fast-paced, iterative, test-driven development environment
Contribute to strategically valuable open-source projects
What you bring to the table:
Degree in CS or related technical field, or equivalent
Expert knowledge of at least one compiled language (preferably Java) with extra credit for Clojure and/or Python
Proficiency in Unix/Linux environment
Experience building scalable, fault-tolerant systems for large data storage and processing in a production environment
Expert knowledge of data structures and algorithms for large-scale machine learning: you ought to be comfortable at a whiteboard discussing topics like stochastic gradient descent in MapReduce, locality-preserving hashing, and R-tree spatial joins
Effective all-around engineer who writes well-structured, easily maintainable, well-documented code
Self-motivated team player who takes pride in building reliable, powerful, elegant systems that make users happy!
Experience with Amazon Web Services (EC2, S3, SQS, etc.)
Experience working on backend technology for mapping services
Domain expertise in weather and/or agriculture
Frequent contributor to open-source projects
Experience with functional programming in a production environment
