UNIVERSITY DESCRIPTION: Valley City State University (VCSU) is an institution of higher education accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (a Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools) and the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education. COMMUNITY: Valley City is a community of approximately 6,500 people, located in the beautiful Sheyenne River Valley in the east central portion of the state. Fargo-Moorhead, a metropolitan area, is located 60 miles east of Valley City on Interstate 94. Minneapolis-St. Paul and Winnipeg, Manitoba are within 300 miles on Interstate 94 and Interstate 29, respectively. The location of the community lends itself to cultural and recreational activities.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Primary responsibility is to teach software engineering and computer information systems courses in the undergraduate Software Engineering major, CIS major, and related programs. Will lead in maintaining curriculum for a software engineering major. Will assist in recruiting and advising a diverse student population for the programs. Will participate in assessment and planning related departmental programs, serve on committees, perform department and university activities, and provide service to the overall university and community. May advise student organizations Assignment may include teaching over an interactive video network, online courses, and/or departmental administrative duties.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: An earned Masters Degree in Software Engineering or related field. Excellent communication skills and flexibility to work in a dynamic environment.
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED: Doctorate in Software Engineering or related field; teaching and/or training experience, relevant work experience, professional certifications, and involvement in professional organizations. Background in instructional technologies, demonstrated skills using technology, research experience, and supervisory skills. Knowledge in gaming systems, mobile app development, big data, or other cutting edge technologies. Work experience with ERP, CRM, BI, or related information systems. Experience with SAP, Microsoft, or Oracle software.
SALARY, BENEFITS, AND TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Commensurate with education and experience. Group health and disability are provided. Participation in TIAA-CREF is part of the state higher education retirement program. This is a nine-month, full-time, tenured track position. Criminal background checks will be conducted on all hires. Duties begin August 2014.
