The position supports the NEA’s strategic objective to focus the energy and resources of its 3+ million members toward the promotion of public education by providing high-level technical leadership in the development of test strategies and plans across developed and managed applications.

Position Summary: The primary responsibilities of this position involve designing, developing, and implementing testing strategies and methodologies; executing testing (Functional, Regression, System, Integration, and Data Validation Testing); Identifying and managing the implementation of cost-effective and industry quality assurance testing solutions; and defining and tracking quality assurance metrics. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for collecting and analyzing data for software process evaluation and improvement; communicating with user community, developers, business analysts, and consultants; collecting and analyzing data for software process evaluation and improvements; creating and executing and documenting formal test plans and coordinating testing resources; and providing guidance, training, and mentoring to ITS members.

Required Skills

SELECTION CRITERIA: TIER 1 (Essential) : Demonstrated experience designing testing strategies and methodologies. Proven skill in executing Functional Testing, Regression Testing, System, Integration Testing and Data Validation Testing. Proven experience in managing implementation of testing solutions and reporting tools. Excellent communication and writing skills. Demonstrated flexibility and effectiveness in handling multiple and complex projects simultaneously under stringent timeframes and changing priorities/conditions. Ability to work independently and collaboratively among individuals and groups at all levels of the organization (e.g., user and systems departments). Successful references. TIER 2 (Significant) : Experience leading multi-phased projects and experience in project management. Proven experience in training. Experience creating, executing, and documenting formal test plans. Proven problem solving, troubleshooting and analytical skills. TIER 3 (Desirable ): Experience leading multi-phased projects and experience in project management.

Required Experience

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems/Computer Science or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills is obtained. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Minimum of four years of quality assurance experience supporting large scale IT solutions. Three years of hands-on experience conducting Integration/System/Pilot testing, and proven experience querying databases using SQL, Planning, developing, and analyzing testing scripts. O THER REQUIREMENTS : Experience with Java, C/C#, scripting languages (e.g., Python, Perl), database technologies, ITIL practices, Linux or Windows administration. Must be able to work extended hours on evenings and weekends. Occasional travel required.
