Introduction:
The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Software and System Development Engineer.
Job Summary: Responsible for software development tasks, including physics based modeling and simulation, synthetic environments, and terrain database generation for various projects within several programs.
Duties :
Software development to include Windows-based and/or Web-deployed simulation and physics based modeling and simulation, 3D visualization, collision modeling, advanced distributed simulation technologies, immersive human-machine interfaces, interactive data display methods, and terrain database development.
Software/systems analysis and design including execution of concept-to-delivery system design processes (detailed design, implementation, testing and documentation).

Required Qualifications: B.S. or equivalent in Physics, Engineering, or Computer Science and at least 3 years relevant professional level experience to include strong analysis and software development skills, with experience in object-oriented design. Experience in C , computer visualization techniques, and exposure to physics based modeling and simulation. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Must work effectively in a team environment and be able to multi-task and support multiple development projects concurrently. The ideal candidate should have strong initiative, creativity, breadth of experience, and a desire to learn.
Desired Qualifications: M.S. in Physics, Engineering or Computer Science. Experience with Windows-based development, simulation interoperability protocols (e.g., HLA), mission-level simulations (e.g., JSAF), physical dynamics and numerical methods, multi-threaded applications, GUI design, UML, OpenGL, and DirectX APIs, visualization, 3d object collision detection and resolution, virtual and augmented reality, and GIS systems. Experience with graphics design. Familiarity with agile software development. Familiarity with software engineering tools such as Borland C , Visual C , Vega Prime, OpenSceneGraph, Delta3D, Terra Vista Pro Builder, Visual Basic, Microsoft.NET, Java, MATLAB, C#, Windows, and MS Office.
Special Working Conditions: Some US travel may be required, not likely to exceed a few trips per year with no more than four days in duration for each.
