Serves as direct line supervisor of architecture improvement projects. Manages one or more projects in data center, network center, or end-user support services. Responsible for identifying appropriate resources needed, assigning individual responsibilities, and developing schedule to ensure timely completion of project deadlines. Coordinates communications, issue resolution, implementation and testing plans, training plans and successful transition to support and maintenance teams.

Essential Responsibilities
The primary role of the solutions architect is to collaborate with organizations and services across GE to ensure business needs are being met with robust technology. In addition, the solutions architect will be expected to:
  • Discover new technologies
  • Design new reference architectures and help guide the overall strategic direction of the GE Corporate IT strategy
  • Advise management on technology purchases and on future projects or environment upgrades / modifications
  • Collaborate with application teams to design and document technical solutions based on business and technical requirements
  • Collaborate with build teams to implement technical designs utilizing state of the art technical platforms and infrastructure
  • Develop and document reference architectures for standardizing platforms
  • Collaborate with application and build teams to evaluate and adopt new technologies

    Qualifications/Requirements
    Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum 4 years of experience with J2EE application servers such as Weblogic, JBoss and Tomcat
  • Minimum 4 years of experience with HTTP servers such as Apache
  • Minimum 4 years of experience working with Linux Operating Systems
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with Java performance tuning tools such as JProbe or Yourkit
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a design modeling language such as UML or BPMN
  • Minimum 2 year of experience with relational databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, and MySQL Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be willing to work out of an office in Visteon Village, Wayne County, Van Buren Township (near Ann Arbor / Detroit)

    Desired Characteristics
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent technical discipline
  • Experience with one or more programming languages such as Java, PHP, Shell Script, Perl, Python, .NET, etc.
  • Experience with LDAP servers
  • Experience as Lead Developer or Architect on large enterprise-level web applications
  • Experience in scalability and performance tuning of massively scalable web applications
  • ITILv3 Certification
  • Strong track record of understanding and interest in current and emerging technologies demonstrated through training, job experience and / or industry activities
  • Strong team player – collaborates well with others to solve problems and actively incorporates input from various sources
  • Demonstrated customer focus – evaluates decisions through the eyes of the customer, builds strong customer relationships and creates processes with customer viewpoint
  • Strong analytical skills – strong problem solving skills, communicates in a clear and succinct manner and effectively evaluates information / data to make decisions; anticipates obstacles and develops plans to resolve
  • Change oriented – actively generates process improvements, supports and drives change and confronts difficult circumstances in creative ways
  • Knowledgeable in software design and development best practices
  • Familiar with application design tools such as Eclipse, NetBeans, Subversion (SVN), CVS, Ant, Maven
  • Familiar with popular Java frameworks such as Spring, Hibernate, Struts
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Self-motivated with strong sense of project ownership
  • Ability to work across multiple projects simultaneously
