The Solutions Architect - Desktop Virtualization is responsible for providing technical leadership and solutions for virtual desktop infrastructure initiatives. In this role, you will coordinate with other architecture and engineering teams, i.e. storage, network, server, etc. to design, build and deploy desktop virtualization solutions. You will work closely with the GE businesses to ensure business requirements are closely aligned with the technical solutions.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Architect and design VDI technical solutions that meet business requirements
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other technical architecture and engineering teams
  • Assist in defining strategic technology direction and solutions, providing input in selecting technology suppliers and partners
  • Evaluate industry best practices and develop technology roadmaps
  • Establish strong relationships with key technology suppliers to ensure successful project implementations, address any technical issues and to influence the development of future capabilities
  • Prepare design documentation including reference architectures, detailed design diagrams, design assumptions and considerations, etc.
  • Conduct stakeholder and customer presentations, product demonstrations and technical support as needed

    Qualifications/Requirements
    Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Management or Engineering
  • Minimum 3 years of IT experience including technical architecture design and implementation experience
  • Minimum 2 years of consultancy experience with vendor or large enterprise with leading desktop virtualization technologies including vmWare View, ThinApp, Citrix XenDesktop, XenApp
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with Active Directory, GPO configurations and management
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with MS Windows Server 2003 / 2008, MS Windows 7, MS Office 2010 Eligibility Requirements:
  • Must be willing to work from our GE Infrastructure Shared Services offices in either Cincinnati, OH, Alpharetta, GA, or Van Buren Twp, MI

    Desired Characteristics
  • Demonstrated ability to drive technical evaluations and product selections to meet business strategies and customer requirement
  • Knowledge of the technical aspects of virtualization technologies including storage, server, network, client, hardware and software
  • VCP, VTSP, vmWare View, ThinApp, Citrix, XenDesktop certifications
  • Knowledge of EMC, HP, Dell, NetApp, CISCO, Microsoft virtualization hardware / software solutions
  • Experience with VDI persona management and performance management solutions
  • Experience with scripting tools including VB script, Winbatch scripting
  • Networking experience including TCP / IP, Routing, Firewalls, Network Security
  • Strong track record of understanding and interest in current and emerging technologies demonstrated through training, job experience and / or industry activities
  • Strong team player – collaborates well with others to solve problems and actively incorporates input from various sources
  • Demonstrated customer focus – evaluates decisions through the eyes of the customer, builds strong customer relationships and creates processes with customer viewpoint
  • Strong analytical skills – strong problem solving skills, communicates in a clear and succinct manner and effectively evaluates information / data to make decisions, anticipates obstacles and develops plans to resolve
