We are currently hiring for our flagship school, serving 240 students in grades 6-8 in Newark, New Jersey in the 2014-2015 school year. We are hiring teachers for Middle School Math, Science and English, as well P/E and electives subjects (music, art, Spanish, etc.).
TEACHER POSITIONS OVERVIEW
This is an opportunity to work with teachers who are 100% committed to the academic success and reshaping the school experience of students in Newark. You will act as advisor, provide targeted small-group instruction, directly coach students as they work with online learning tools, and collaborate with peers to ensure high levels of student achievement. We invest heavily in our teachers to help them gain deep content knowledge of curriculum and instruction through consistent use of data to develop, implement, and monitor student personalized learning plans.
Teachers work together in content-area teaching teams, problem solving and analyzing student performance to create and execute academic achievement plans. Master Teachers ensure continuous improvement in teaching and learning, working with students and providing coaching and support to Associate Teachers and Teachers.
Teach small, targeted content classes and serve as an advisor for a group of students.
Maintain and communicate high academic and personal expectations for all students.
Incorporate various instructional strategies, pedagogies, and online curricular and instructional tools to engage students, keep classes focused, and infuse a lasting desire to learn.
Create and implement rigorous, standards-based, objective-driven lessons, and assessments.
Analyze data to adapt curriculum and target instruction to ensure students master standards.
Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
Share accountability for content-area student performance results.
Additional Master Teacher responsibilities:
Lead content area team to creatively and collaboratively ensure continuous improvement in teaching and learning.
Meet specific learning needs of every student through development of learning plans and weekly student groupings.
Plan, facilitate, and follow-up on weekly content area data team meetings.
Believes that all students can achieve at the highest levels with no excuses.
Tireless commitment to all students’ academic success and personal development.
Demonstrated record of success in the classroom (at least 2 years), with accountability for student performance.
Entrepreneurial spirit, comfort with ambiguity, and affinity for learning new tools and applications.
Effectively analyzes data to improve student and staff achievement.
Strong collaboration communication, and interpersonal skills with a range of stakeholders, including students, staff, and parents.
Strategic thinker, proactive problem solver, and excellent judgement in decision-making.
NJ State Teaching Certificate with subject matter specialization for grades 5-8 in applicable content area or equivalent out of state teaching certificate
Additional qualifications for Master Teachers
Proven record of success and leadership in the classroom, with *at least* 4-5 years minimum of direct teaching experience.
Expertise in creating formative and summative assessments and data analysis.
