This is a temporary position designed to improve the overall departmental needs of Special Education. It is designed to review and improve all systems related to process, procedures and personnel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Review all processes and procedures looking for ways to improve by consolidating, automating, relocating or eliminating tasks.
Evaluate Special Education Coordinators.
Assist in the Department’s human resources activities: hires/directs/mentors/ disciplines/terminates; professional development activities; evaluations.
Review communications among the community, the faculty and the administration regarding student needs, programming, and instruction, including mediation and due process procedures.
Assess instructional and curricular practices to students placed in detention centers, youth corrections, residential treatment centers, residential child-care facilities, day treatment programs and hospitals.
Identify staff development needs and source sufficient resources to ensure continual development.
Assess current staff and create a sustainable employee review process.
Develop and monitor an employee retention program. Create Professional Pathways for all disciplines. Tailor all performance evaluations to the specific position and communicate changes. Work with Human Resources to create a pipeline of talent with a solid mentoring and induction program.
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Excellent interpersonal relations and oral and written communication skills.
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of developing, monitoring and evaluating special education curriculum, discipline plans and IEP plans.
Computer and software skills.
Knowledge of special education laws.
Demonstrated skills in facilitation, problem solving and conflict management.
Has the ability to effectively communicate with the school district community.
Has a process improvement mindset.
Maintains a generally positive attitude.
Observes all District policies and procedures.
Master’s degree in Special Education plus additional coursework resulting in a Colorado Type D Certificate/Principal/ Administrator’s License.
Five years of special education administrative experience.
Five years contracted special education teaching experience.
