Hannah More School is a nonpublic day school for students, grades 6-12, with a primary disability of emotional disturbance, autism, learning disabilities, other health impairment or multiple disabilities. In 2001 Hannah More School opened its first Type II School at Severn River Middle School in Anne Arundel County. In 2003 a second Type II school was opened at Severna Park High School and in 2010 a third Type II school at Millersville Elementary School. Type II Schools are located within public schools and serve students who are able, with support, to be integrated into general education classes for part of the school day. The school’s main campus is located in Reisterstown, MD (Baltimore County) and serves students who live in the greater Baltimore metropolitan area. The 10 month school program presently enrolls approximately 100 students. Hannah More School became part of the Sheppard Pratt Health System in November 2012.

Hannah More School is looking to hire a qualified Speech Language Pathologist (SLP). The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for providing speech and language services to the students referred or identified as in need of such services. The SLP screens and evaluates school students for possible speech, language, and hearing deficits, provides individual and group speech and language therapy and communicates with students based on an understanding of the developmental needs of children and adolescents. The SLP works closely with treatment teams of students receiving services and assists in providing speech-language programs for staff development. The SLP meets with parents, school representatives, and others as needed and keeps abreast of developments in the fields of speech pathology and special education.

Requires: Master’s degree in speech pathology from an approved college or university and 6-12 months of related experience. (Individuals eligible to complete a clinical fellowship year welcome to apply!) Must have licensure as a speech-language pathologist by the Maryland State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene at time of appointment and continuously throughout tenure in position. Work requires a comprehensive knowledge of diagnostic tools and formulation and assessment techniques in the area of speech pathology, speech and language therapy techniques and modes, as well as highly developed communication skills, both oral and written. Work requires a general knowledge of special education techniques and treatment of emotionally disturbed children and adolescents and ability to work within structure of organizational operations, policies, and procedures. Work requires substantial interpersonal skills sufficient to relate to a wide variety of students, as well as work cooperatively with a wide array of professionals. Work requires a relatively high level of analytical ability sufficient to interpret student's speech and language assessments, determine their strengths and deficits, and develop, recommend, and implement appropriate treatment plans. Work requires regular exposure to mental stress incidental to working with emotionally disturbed children, which very frequently produces a high level of mental/visual fatigue. Salary is determined by license/education/experience (10 month CF salary range: $43,110-$50,195/yr).
