The Design Assurance Center (DAC) works alongside our engineering development teams during the project bidding and planning, early definition, architecture, requirements capture and allocation, design, development, integration, implementation, test, verification, and certification activities. During these development efforts the DAC performs regulatory, company, and customer driven audits to ensure the teams are following their plans and processes. This position requires applicant to have a thorough understanding of, and demonstrated experience in: review and auditing of engineering design and development process and methods, industry standards and regulations; as well as engineering documentation and configuration management requirements.
This position is responsible for working with the engineering design and development teams to provide quality-focused process planning and adherence support activities at the project level for Rockwell Collins product developments.
In this role the ideal candidate will be capable of advising project teams and leadership of design quality trends and systemic issues; and working with organizations to investigate, understand root cause, and provide recommend corrective actions as needed to achieve design and development quality objectives.
•Ensure developments meet customer, company, ARP4754A, DO-178B, DO-254 and regulatory requirements as applicable.
•Throughout development lifecycle mentor engineering teams regarding process, Quality, and regulatory requirements in order to ensure problem-free product and artifact deliveries.
•Proactively assess development projects on an ongoing basis to determine "health" of the project via process adherence assessment/audit using the appropriate tool sets.
•Ensure engineering efforts performed effectively and aligned with RCI & customer's quality expectations
•Employ Quality-related tools such as Root Cause Analysis, Variation Reduction, Key Characteristics, etc. as appropriate. Analyze project data for trends and systemic issues - recommend corrective action. Produce reports for management review.
•Prepares and leads the review of audit findings and recommends corrective actions to improve/enhance controls, risk management and governance processes, and/or improved methods of operation.
•Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
•Participate and contribute to project team meetings, LEAP, peer reviews, Test Readiness Reviews, TPRs, PDRs, CDRs, and other associated meetings. Provide data collection, analysis, and reporting to support these meetings as required.
•Engages/delegates to DQA SMEs, if/as needed, to ensure appropriate DAC technical engagement
•Support creation of customer-specific Design Assurance documentation for new product developments as required.
•Assist transition to production ensuring D&D related quality issues are resolved
•Ensure effective and appropriate project process tailoring and approvals
•OTJ mentor/trainer of process for teams
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Candidate must be a self-starter, be able to multi-task, manage unplanned events, and take advantage of opportunities and events to achieve results that exceed expectations. This individual must be able to communicate with employees at all levels in the organization, demonstrating excellent problem solving, critical thinking and decision making skills. Additional requirements include an understanding of engineering design and development activities and the associated processes. Solid understanding and experience in the engineering development lifecycle with emphasis on design quality aspects is critical for success.
The ideal candidate will also possess the following skills or direct experience:
• A strong customer focus
• A proven track record of meeting commitments
• A strong working knowledge of design process, including the Technical Consistent Process
• An understanding of lean value and savings
• An ability to communicate masterfully both verbally and in writing
• An ability to establish rapport with all levels of the organization, including leadership, internal engineering customers, shared service organizations, and external customers
Working knowledge of the aerospace industry, ARP4754A, DO-178B, DO-254, ISO-9001 and AS9100, desired. Prior Design and/or Software Quality experience preferred.
Bachelor's degree in appropriate discipline, and four years of related experience, or, in the absence of a bachelor's degree, ten years of related experience.
US Citizenship or Permanent Resident (Green Card) is required.
