The Lamar University Information Technology – Enterprise Services team is accepting applications for Sr Programmer Analyst or Programmer Analyst positions with technical experience to support the University’s Ellucian Banner Enterprise Resource Planning( ERP ), ODS Data Warehouse and Reporting Environment. (Two positions available, the level of position will be determined by the applicant’s eduction and experience.)

The Enterprise Services-Information Technology Services team is responsible for supporting a variety of third party interfaces, reporting applications, and databases which include the Ellucian Operational Data Store( ODS ), Evisons Argos reporting solution, Banner Document Management System ( BDMS ), DegreeWorks and third-party applications and databases. These positions will focus on beginning to end support, development, analysis and design of production interfaces and analytic solutions involving Student, HR, Financial Aid, Finance, and other strategic and operational facets of the University.

The candidates will be expected to work on assignments under general direction of the Technical Applications Manager, provide application development support of administrative computing systems consisting primarily of the Oracle-based Banner ERP System. Design, develop, test, and deploy application code in support of Banner system enhancements, data conversion, and integration with other major campus systems, troubleshooting, and general support.

Position Responsibilities:
Sr Programmer Analyst:
Requires a demonstrated ability to establish effective work relationships and to communicate effectively within department workgroup, throughout the university with professional or managerial staff, and with outside vendors. Work requires critical judgment, a high level of initiative, problem solving skills and complex reasoning to solve division and university issues.

  • work as part of a team providing advanced/highly complex programming, reporting, integration, and analytical support services for the campus Enterprise Resource Planning ( ERP ) system including Ellucian Higher Education Banner technologies, other third-party applications, and internal programming.
  • write and maintain standards and procedures, while working with staff to maintain proper application change management, access procedures and security are set up and documented.
  • integrate the appropriate technology through the design, development and support of enterprise-level services and the appropriate integration pieces.
  • develop extensive design solutions for complex, multifaceted automated business systems.
  • partner with users in testing programs and reports; creates related documentation; and ensures programs and reports function efficiently and securely.
  • code, document, test, and troubleshoot programs and integrations.
  • design and implement major system changes or integrations using third and fourth generation languages (e.g. Java, .Net, PHP , SQL , PL/ SQL , XML , and/or web scripting) to build and integrate systems.
  • effectively work in a large relational database environment with hundreds of objects, relationships, and complex constraints.
  • respond to, troubleshoots, and repairs issues with databases and associated applications including Banner.
  • implement data loading, migrations, conversions, and scheduled job operations.
  • work with Technical Applications Manager to assess/develop timelines to meet the goals of the department and functional areas.
  • will review new programs including database programs, functions, procedures, and packages before they are loaded into production databases and systems.
  • develop and maintain the processes necessary to refresh or otherwise maintain sets of data for testing and development purposes and automates processes when possible.
  • write and maintain specifications, and assists in developing timelines to meet the goals of functional areas.
  • design must be suited for large mission critical business systems and implemented within a well-structured application development methodology with iterative quality control, peer reviews and prototyping.

Programmer Analyst:

  • work as part of a team providing complex programming, reporting, integration, and analytical support services for the campus Enterprise Resource Planning ( ERP ) system including Ellucian Higher Education Banner technologies, other third-party applications, and internal programming.
  • follow guidelines to maintain proper application change management.

Minimum Qualifications

Sr. Programmer Analyst level:
Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information technology, computer technology, information technology, or related field of study from an accredited institution with five years relevant experience in related field. A combination of education, experience, certifications, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

  • Minimum of five (5) years programming and analytical experience supporting computing users, including experience with Unix/Linux, Oracle RDBMS .
  • Minimum of five (5) years development experience using Oracle 10g/11g Databases, SQL , PL/ SQL , Packages, Stored Procedures, Triggers and UNIX or UNIX -like shell scripting.
  • Must have experience testing application software, researching problems and providing detailed information required to reproduce problems and/or verify problem resolution.
  • Must demonstrate ability to think objectively and creatively, focusing not only on details, but accurately comprehending larger issues and being able to accurately and clearly communicate the relation between both.
  • Must have ability to develop test plans and support the execution of those plans.
  • Must have in depth understanding of Software development life-cycle, including change management, functional and technical specification development.
  • Must have experience as a Programmer/Systems Analyst in a team working directly with functional counterparts on requirements gathering and program specification and design.
  • Must demonstrate strong problem solving skills, good judgment, and effective decision making.
  • Must have strong interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate ability to analyze business functions, applications and data for problem identification and resolution.
Programmer Analyst level:
Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information technology, computer technology, information technology, or related field of study from an accredited institution with three years relevant experience in directly related field. A combination of education, experience, certifications, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
