Raytheon is currently seeking a Senior Technical Writer to produce internal technical publications for a government-sponsored software engineering group. The individual will be responsible for creating solutions, sometimes from scratch, targeted to multiple highly technical audiences with varying needs.
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a history of creative and successful solutions to bridge gaps in cultural and communication styles; will be able to respond easily to changing user requirements; and will be able to suggest improvements and shape expectations for an audience new to technical writers; in both the documentation deliverables and the process used to create, edit, and maintain them.
The ideal candidate must be able to work independently when necessary, but be comfortable in a customer-embedded team; must rely on internal resources when necessary but be a good “ambassador” for the company, keeping management involved and informed; must conform to customer expectations but be flexible enough to help customers understand conflicting requests and how to resolve them in a diplomatic, customer-friendly manner.
Specific tasks may include creating or editing documents for an audience of software engineers, hardware testers and integrators. Documents may include user guides, specifications, process documentation, procedures, and others.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering , IT, English or related field
Eight years of technical writing experience which demonstrates technical knowledge, skills, and abilities to effectively write and edit publications.
Some experience in a software development environment is required.
Ability and willingness to delve into C++ and other source code when necessary to resolve documentation issues.
Ability to create and edit line drawings or simple illustrations using common drawing packages is expected.
