Researches proposed transactions to determine the impact on all taxes paid by CITGO and affiliates. Assists Manager, Tax Planning in advising General Manager, Tax, other Tax Managers and other department heads regarding the tax implications of proposed transactions, general business and economic decisions, proposing alternative solutions to meet stated business objectives where necessary. Works with outside tax attorneys and tax professionals as necessary. Assists Manager, Tax Planning with coordinating activities among multiple CITGO departments, including contract and document review, to insure proper implementation of tax planning structures. Assists Manager, Tax Planning with any other tax issues including, for example, providing tax planning support to outside tax counsel of PDVSA and other non-US affiliated companies as requested. Monitors and assesses the impact of proposed and enacted tax legislation. Provides assistance to the Federal and State compliance groups as necessary, including researching tax return issues, assistance with IRS audit issues, and preparation and review of returns.
College Degree (Bachelors Level).
Big 4 Public Accounting Experience preferred.
Master’s Degree preferred.
The minimum number of years of job related experience required by this job is 5.
Perform tax planning activities for all types of taxes. Analyze the business and legal structure of (1) joint ventures with third parties, (3) asset divestitures, (3) asset purchases, (4) stock purchases, (5) internal restructurings (6) financing transactions, (7) international business expansion, etc. Determine via knowledge, analysis and tax research the tax impact of the proposed business and legal structure of transactions. Advise the Manager, Tax Planning regarding tax impacts of proposed transactions. Identify and recommend alternatives to the proposed business and legal structure that will be more tax efficient, yet will still attain the desired business objectives. Review contracts or other legal documents that form the legal basis for transactions and advise on contract language to ensure that the recommended tax related structuring is properly documented so as to preserve the desired tax results. Handles multiple, complex and simultaneous projects.
Interact with multiple CITGO departments to insure proper implementation of transaction structures to insure the desired tax results are achieved.
Work with outside tax attorneys and CPAs when they are hired to assist in analyzing transactions and tax issues.
Monitor and assess the impact of proposed and enacted tax legislation.
Assist with tax research and write-up on IRS audit issues, prepare and review tax returns and work on special projects as assigned.
Assist Manager, Tax Planning with providing support to outside tax counsel of PDVSA and other non-US affiliated companies.
Assists with compliance with required transfer pricing requirements and policies.
