Key Responsibilities Purpose/Summary:|
Under limited supervision, responsible for the day to day management and support of all shipboard networks including desktop workstations, servers, network resources, and their installed applications for all Maersk Line, Limited vessels. Able to install, configure, and support server-based and workstation-based operating systems. May supervise consultant/temp activities.
Provide technical support for the IT infrastructure of the MLL fleet including: shipboard networks, satellite communications, servers, workstations, network printers and other IT equipment used aboard MLL vessels.
Plan and execute shipboard IT infrastructure upgrades, maintenance and support.
Coordinate the activities of internal and external service providers as related to shipboard IT goals.
Assist in the development of vessel IT budgets.
Develop and enforce technical procedures, processes, and work instructions.
Ensure adequate data protection, to include all backup and recovery .
Provide for disaster recovery of vital shipboard data.
Monitor the performance of all provided services and take corrective action to maintain or improve IT services provided to the MLL fleet when identified.
Make recommendations for new or upgraded IT services and equipment for the MLL fleet.
Participate in the planning and implementation of new or upgraded services for the MLL fleet.
Provide for technical support of network and computer operating systems, software applications, personal computers, and communications equipment for the MLL fleet.
Coordinate with the vessel managers and other Maersk Line, Limited personnel to provide effective and timely technical support service to MLL vessels.
Maintain technical and configuration documentation of all shipboard workstations and.
Maintain current capabilities antivirus on shipboard workstations, servers, and email virus programs across the MLL fleet.
Manage and implement security patches and service packs in a timely fashion.
Other duties as may be assigned from time-to-time
Who we are looking for Position Specifications:
Education and Experience
A combination of education and experience equivalent to five years of IT experience supporting remote and/or shipboard computers and networks.
Demonstrated experience in computer and networking software and hardware systems.
Experience with satellite/shipboard communications preferred.
Technical Skills and Competencies Required
Knowledge of local area and wide area networking principles and support requirements.
Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise
Knowledge of computer/network systems infrastructure requirements and standards
Knowledge of computer security systems, applications, procedures and techniques
Strong knowledge of personal computer and application support
Ability to work without supervision and deal with multiple tasks simultaneously and to deliver support services from a customer oriented perspective.
Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel
Ability to install, configure, and maintain personal computers, networks, and/or related hardware and software
Ability to analyze and assess computer/network architecture requirements and determine optimum, cost-effective solutions
Certifications in technologies as appropriate.
Computer/network systems planning skills
Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate multiple projects

While in office, general office setting apply, typically the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work, usually at a computer terminal - with short breaks or lunch period. However, there may be some bending/stooping, reaching above shoulder level, walking; standing; carrying of light items such as papers, books or packages of up to 25 pounds. Should be able to hear & speak clearly using phone / headset to communicate with customers; be able to navigate, view & enter information on the computer. Must be able to pick up computers. Must be able to crawl under desks to connect systems.
In addition, employee will be exposed to shipboard conditions which will include; bending/stooping, reaching above shoulder level, walking; standing, and climbing multiple flights of stairs. There may be some instances where employee will have to stay overnight on a MLL vessel that is either docked or underway.
