Under general supervision, performs technical professional work related to the planning, design, construction and administration of a variety of public work projects; does related work as required.
Examples of Duties:
Designs and .or manages roadway improvements, water main and sewer main extensions, greenways and bridge replacement projects. Supervises assigned staff; works with and provides technical information to City officials, employees, contractors, State and Federal officials and the public; prepares cost estimates and specifications; prepares documents for and assists with the acquisition of necessary right-of-way and easements; provides and approves design changes during construction of assigned projects.
Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and extensive experience in professional civil engineering work.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D and Microsoft Office programs. Knowledge of NCDOT specifications and State and Federal regulations as they relate to public works projects; possession of excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously and possession of strong analytical, organizational and problem solving skills.
Special Requirement: Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of North Carolina. Have or be able to obtain a valid North Carolina's drivers license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Reasonable accommodations may substitute for any physical requirements listed): Must be able to maneuver consistently within the work area; must be able to move up to 50lbs and maneuver up to one mile; must be able to jump, crawl and climb; must be able to work with small and large objects. This position will work primarily indoors and may be exposed to repetitive motion/operations and long period of sitting.
